Think about the power that being able to talk to yourself ten, fifteen, or twenty years in the past. How much would you pay to be able to spend even an hour with yourself and relay information that would be vital to maximizing your success a decade later?
Well, I've got great news-You can.
A lot of emphasis is placed upon the value of a mentor, and tremendous value can be found in any mentor who is successful, shrewd, and willing to be open with you about your work, but about three months ago, I realized that there is a particular kind of mentor that you should be seeking out relentlessly until you find him or her:
The mentor who is the person you want to be in 10, 15, or 20 years.
When I finally found this person, I knew it right away. When they were "just starting out" they were where I am now-transitioning out of a slow lane career after university that would have made them (and most people) reasonably content until old age and retirement-after their kids and spouse had aged and their best years had been sucked away from them. 15 years later, they had settled into the fastlane that I wanted to be in, they had climbed the hurdles, braved the desert of dissection, and come out on top. All the other mentors are awesome, and will definitely help you out, but this mentor, the person you want to be in 20 years, that person will help you in a way that nobody else can.
Imagine if you could send yourself advice on how to get from your first sale to quit-your-job-sales?
Imagine if you could tell yourself not to give up when you hit your big pitfall, because you know how the story ends?
Imagine if you could throw books or resources or advice in the way of your past self that would make you work SMARTER and HARDER?
