This is going to be a thread where I post about progress with my business as well as progress battling the demon that is mental health.
Mental health is something I find very difficult to talk about but it is something I have dealt with for many years and continue to deal with currently. It can be tough and I have upmost admiration tho those battling their demons while building a business.
I don't want this to be a pity story but more of a way to keep myself accountable and for others out there who are doing it tough as well, to know that you are not alone!
This isn't the first business I have ran, I used to make a product and sell it and did that for a few years with some success. I had to stop though for a few reasons, the most prominent being the need to focus on my health. As you probably know the stresses of running a business can build up and I found myself in a position where I didnt want to make sales, I dreaded it, even though I was making pretty good money. Making Something yourself, can be a catch 22, as the more you sell, the more you have to work and I had no desire for employees at this stage.
I have taken on some part time work to help with some income but have been struggling to do much else and time has just been passing me by. Sleep has been my biggest want in life for quite a long time and I am sick of it. I have been to get help, therapists, doctors etc and am continuing to do so.
A few days ago i turned 25 and it is scary how time is passing at an accelerating rate. I need to keep building the life I want and try to improve a bit every day.
I am forcing myself to work on my business as the plan of getting better first isn't working so here goes...
The plan: Build a business that is predominantly online that can be ran from a laptop.
The plan is eventually to be able to travel and work on my business at the same time. I have to start somewhere and have decided that ecommerce will be where I start.
I have found a product that I am going to start selling and if it doesn't work then I will have the skills and system to try another product easily until I can find a winning product. I do have a good feeling about this one though, there is already a proven market and I know how I can differentiate it and add more value.
I will start off dropshipping to see if I can get sales as it is an easy way to test the market before doing my own branding.
When people buy the product I will give them a bonus beginner course on how to do tricks with the product as well as a custom music playlist that they can listen to when using the product. I am thinking of other bonuses to add as well but this is a start.
Longer term will be custom branding of the product as well as a larger course that can be used as a subscription.
To give a more concrete example of the idea, lets pretend I am selling skateboards, people will come to my website and see the skateboard for sale as well as a bonus course on how to ollie, kickflip, and pop-shovit and also a music playlist to listen to while they practice. Longer term I will release an extensive course, teaching them lots of different tricks which will have a monthly subscription. People will buy the skateboard, go through the free course, get lots of value from it and then some will buy the paid course.
I like this model as it adds more value to the generic product and a community can be built around the product.
I have started building the website, it will be a simple landing page to start off with, that I will be able to split test for conversions and experiment with the offer. I am narrowing down my supplier. Plan is to have the website finished within a week, and the dropship supplier locked in.
For traffic, the plan is to post videos to ticktock, shorts and reels. Organic traffic will be the plan to start off with and any that go well could eventually be used for advertising.
Its not much but it is a start.
I don't expect anyone to get this far so thankyou if you have. Its nice having someone to be able to talk to even if it is just a stranger on the internet
