I know we all need millions of dollars to hit our escape number, mine is $10mill AUD.
BUT if you are escaping from a crap day j.o.b. that pays you just enough to pay your bills, then an interim goal should be to double your current income. Me personally, I am setting up to help others, take back control of my time, increase my hourly rate, and shoot for double my current income.
To put that in perspective I worked backward from the target, worked out what I need to charge and how many customers I would need to do so. Making sure I will still have my eyes open for a bigger 'need' to solve.
I chose a premium type service at premium prices, given that my starting point, income from my current j.o.b. when calculated for the travel involved and the 2 1/2 hr break between morning and afternoon shifts, I'm making less than $20 AUD/hr. So my target is $40-50/hr as my own business. I say $50 because, by the time you account for taxes and fees, that will easily bring it down to about $40.
Once I have control of my time and have covered my bills with some excess to throw at building the BIG idea business I will be unstoppable!

ps... I will also have my garage built by then too. So many of the big companies started in garages or basements.
