Do I Need An Audience Before I Launch?

I'm launching an Info Product and the advice (which I agree with) that I keep hearing is that it is very valuable to have an audience from your content marketing who you can sell your Info Product to. As they would trust you enough to buy from you and you are an authority to the.

While I agree with this above sentiment and will absolutely include it as a paramount part of my marketing strategy... I am curious to know if I can make sales initially (while building my audience) from Affiliate Marketers who already have pre-existing lists in my niche that they can sell to?

Has anyone ever done this? Getting sales from other affiliate's email lists while you had no email list yourself?
