I have been away from the forum quite some time but now I'm back again. I wanted to share a strategy that is working for me. It's in fact nothing new but I marvel at the simplicity of the model.
The strategy is this: You find services or products that people always need or use. Better if they need them on regular basis. Even better if they are likely to stay with the service or keep using the product for long time.
Now write reviews of services or products (software, physical goods) that you narrowed down using wordpress.
Why wordpress? because it will rank well and it will allow visitors to your site to leave comments or even rate the products.
Why Review sites? Because users usually want to see what others are saying before they finally buy something online. If they can justify their purchasing decision by seeing recommendations, they will buy.
Some examples of such products or services are web hosting (hostgator, dreamhost etc) domain name companies (godaddy, neamcheap etc), keyword research tools (Market Samurai), Digital Cameras, list goes on.

Yeah this is their model. They review hundreds of products and services, rate one of among the group. No matter which service or product a person ends up buying, they get affiliate commissions. In case of Amazon, people buy from Amazon because they have allowed their users to post reviews, positive and negative.
Tools you will need: wordpress is free, domain names, hosting service, a theme 9free or premium), a wordpress plugin that allow you to create comparison tables, a way to create rating categories, mask affiliate links etc.
After weeks of research online I have narrowed down the absolute BEST wordpress plugin to create review sites and it's MyReviewPlugin. Do you a absolutely need this plugin? No, if you can all that it does manually. I found it makes the job so much easier and is in fact a complete system. I don't want this thread to become a review of MyReviewPlugin but I will probably add more later on why I strongly believe that you use it.
Since I'm creating many of these sites in different niches, I use the unlimited site version which sells for $130. If you are planning to just create one site, you can get the single site license for $90.
