That aside, if not business building, I usually get a kick out of pondering spiritual stuff. Thinking of the big questions like where did we come from, is there a God, what is our purpose, who am I, how should we live and where are we headed.

Hope that's helpful.

Or is it like an episode of the Twilight Zone? Does the darkness have to end some where? Is there a little girl on the other side of what we call darkness playing? Or maybe some mad scientist on the other side of that darkness?

Are some people born night owls?

Ever since I was a kid, I remember staying up late to read or watch tv. You’d basically have to drag me to school every morning because I would be up all night working on something.

The nights for me were just more creative hours.

I wonder if this has something to do with our ancestors, and how it was one person’s job to keep the tribe safe whilst everyone slept.

We have a genetic mutation that makes our circadian rhythm lag by around 2 hours.

Here's what's interesting. And I may be stretching these points. But it's night time so I'm feeling creative!

1. In ancient times, we had a dual sleep cycle. You slept for a couple of hours. Got up for half an hour or so. To ponder the universe....or for sexy time. At least that's what we're finding in accounts of ancient Greece.

I haven't seen anything that says people stayed up watching over the tribe. Though that may depend on where the tribe originated. The farthest back we've been able to trace our origins, is to the plains of Africa.

2. The theory of panspermia says we (our microbial ancestors) arrived here by hitching a ride on a comet from Mars. Which interestingly enough, has a day-night cycle, just under 25 hours.

3. Without the day-night cycle, our bodies regulate themselves to......a day just under 25 hours.

Also, your phone, laptop and TV screen emit blue light. That messes with our rhythm, suppressing a hormone called melatonin. Which, helps us fall asleep.

Installing something like f.lux helps tone down that blue light.

That’s dope.

I agree, nighttime brings out the ideas!

Yup. I use f.lux as well. Its just that it only deals with the computer screen and not all the other blue light around me. It's better than nothing of course.

At an eye exam recently, the Optometrist suggested glasses for my child and myself that have a blue filter built in. This was suggested because we spend so much time looking at screens. I can't report about how they function yet. I haven't picked them up. But it is an option if you need it.

Edit: I missed your comment about glasses earlier in the thread. oops.

Perhaps it might be worthwhile to experiment with blue light filtering glasses.

It seems that there are more apps and operating systems now to provide a color shift on screen after sunset. I haven't used those myself, just starting to learn about that.

Learn an instrument. I've been playing guitar 10+ years and when I first started out, I would play until 4am on school nights. That's when I was most creative. No distractions either.

I saw an interview with Alex Van Halen (the family drummer) where he mentioned in his high school years, he'd go out on a date while his brother Eddie (the guitarist) sat on his bed and played his guitar... he'd come back six or eight hours later and Eddie would still be sitting on his bed playing his guitar!

Well, I can never sleep like a normal person (still have work in the A.M.) so I thought I’d update a little here.

Going to focus on acquiring new web design clients using Facebook and Instagram.

That should keep me busy at night.

You might also be able to offer some after-hours support services to other web developers, so their clients have someone who can check if the server needs to be rebooted at 3 am or whatever. (I haven't done an analysis of this premise, it's just something that happened to come to mind.)
