Hey forum,

with summer in full swing, despite the virus, most people are going on vacation. This is true for alot of my friends and colleagues as well.
One of the staples of a summer vacation(especially with kids) is playing games with balls, inflatable rafts, inflatable kid pools etc. etc.
Basically alooot of inflatable things.

I keep hearing complaints about the hand pumps which either come with what you bought or you buy them separately.
It takes too long, my hands get tired and numb, its too small, I sweat each time until I inflate everything, and more like these.

What does the forum think?
Is there a need for a better hand pump which takes less effort to operate?

Maybe you could make one that you don't need to plugin? (Batteries included) ?

Could you not check on ebay and Amazon what were the best sellers of these products and produce like 10 then sell them?

Ebay, in particular, is great for showing how many of each item has sold.

I recently had to inflate a beach ball for my GFs niece and nephew. After that I had to pump up a slip and slide. My choices were: air compressor or by mouth. Both of those choices clearly have issues. One isn't portable and is expensive. The other takes time and could make you faint.

I think portability and efficiency are clear needs. But another, perhaps less obvious need is different sized valves. The air compressor nozzle didn't fit the beach ball or the slip and slide. I had to wrap paper towels around it to prevent air from escaping. If there was a sort of kit, one valve for balls, another for wider air openings, etc, I think it would definitely fulfill a need.

Love the idea!

Well, my tyre inflator has adaptors for everything, it's dual power, rechargable battery or cigarette lighter plug, it's portable, pistol grip drill-like device, digital read out in psi or bar, auto shut off at variable pressures, comes in a soft carry case, £50 Argos UK.

However, if you develop one like sparechange mentioned & powered by say a smartphone power bank you may have something.

I think portability and efficiency are clear needs

For larger items it could be powered by car jump pack batteries, which have USB.

All or the same hand pump variety.
Yes some are smaller, some come with valves, some are futuristic looking, but none of them actually make it easier on your arms or legs.

A valve kit with each pimp is a really good idea, thank you!

I'm wondering if a battery powered pump can be operated manually as well.
For when the battery runs out OR when you need larger preassure.
Something like a crank with a large lever to rotate. Maybe telescopical.
I'll do some digging around to see if such a thing exists.

Couldnt find what I`m looking for.
This thing is the closest I found to what I`m thinking of:

34307
Its a blower, not an a pump.

Surely, there should be an air pump which works this way, no?
Am I just not searching correctly?

Bruh check the amazon negative reviews of the top products and do the exact opposite with a better product. People are always looking for alternatives

OK, so its likely that this rotating pump doesnt exist.
At least I cant find it as a product anywhere, yet it seems like a briliant idea to me.

Maybe it cant be done, or it`ll be too bulky if made, who knows.
Or maybe there is something fundamental about it which makes it unviable.

I`m going down the rabbit hole and will try to make one :D

I'm interested as a newbie to this forum, how will you go about making a physical product? I've always wondered... Thanks.

Well the idea for now is to buy an electrical pump, gut it, weld a reductor to it and a lever that I can turn.
After that I`ll try and inflate some stuff to see what happens.
Then I`ll go from there.

I like hiw you can set the preassure and just leave it working.
Wonder how much it can pump before it needs a full charge.

Thank you for the link :)

This is what I ended up buying:
34414

Most pumps come with kits for inflating different stuff, so thats not really new.
The more expensive the pump, the bigger the kit usually.
I took it appart, the pump inside of it is surprisingly small.

Turns out you cant just buy reducers (mechanical reductors) and cogs from local stores.
There might be somewhere, couldnt find though.

Also I might have caused a few forehead cramps because of the questions I was asking store owners.
Never seen people raise their eybrows so high before :D

I ended up ordering some second hand and one brand new, waiting for delivery.

Welding is also out the window because of pricing lets say.
The materials used for the pumps are rather cheap and they cant really be welded together.
Nuts and bolts it is.

Is that a continuous air compressor?
Maybe you could solder if it has metal parts.
Nope, works with a piston.
I'll try bolting everything to metal planks, dont think it can be soldered, its all greasy.

I searched Amazon for products that sell well diving into the complaints. Maybe you can solve those complaints at the manufacturing level and use them as inspiration for your own product.

Its released product
Found it: Mi Portable Electric Air Compressor - Lifestyle
Based on the comments, it can pump 2 car tyres fully with one charge.
Which is great for what it does, no doubt.
But nowhere near the amount of air it needs to pump for say a beach mattress or ball or bed etc.
I guess it was made more for preassure, not for volume.
