25-34 numbers seem pretty off as well... What's happening here?

23-25 are probably pulling up the average. They've started their careers, start going to bars instead of house parties and bonfires. If BOA reported the Median, it would likely be closer to what you're expecting.

Also, it's not clear to me if the numbers are for the household or by individual - and how individuals and couples fit into the mix. for a single person, these numbers seem really high. but for a married couple they're a little more reasonable

It's a mean, which means it includes both the guy that has a 3k TV with 500 channels and the MLB season pass and me, the guy with a 4 yr old iPad he watches netflix on.

The healthcare costs are way off. The cheapest catastrophic plan for my wife and I is $621/month.
For insurance we don't use because our deductible is $6500 per person....

I guess I should be happy to be significantly under the average for our age group for total spending.
