Best Marketing Tactics

I'm changing the focus for my entire business - leaving fitness behind me (the market is just way too crowded) and moving toward psychological self-help techniques and methods for certain disorders.

As I'm switching my focus, I will be changing, and hopefully organizing, my entire marketing platform as well, and I want to get the wheels in motion with this as soon as possible.

I'm asking those who have built a content-based/how-to business in relatively short time (i.e. less than two years): what are some of the more effective marketing strategies for bringing in a TARGETED audience in a relatively short amount of time?

Could it just be a matter of using general marketing techniques in the beginning (i.e. SEO, videos, PPC, classified ads, etc.) and as your visibility increases you begin relying on more targeted marketing techniques, such as email lists?

Maybe sort of "weeding" out the prospects who may not be helped as effectively by your content as you continue in your business and gain an audience.

Or are there other, less-discussed methods that attract a niche from the get-go?
