There’s nothing like a roomful of your homies and a few rounds of Heineken to get people talking about big news even before it’s official. On Thursday the Financial Times broke the news that premium headphone maker Beats Electronics (sometimes known as “Beats By Dre”) was finalizing a deal to sell toApple AAPL -1.08% for a reported $3.2 billion. Within hours of the news, the belowvideo appeared on R&B singer Tyrese Gibson’s Facebook page. In it, Dr. Dremakes an appearance and boasts about the deal.
“First billionaire in hip-hop, right here on the mother-f$%&*#$ west coast,” Dre says to the camera.
This comes after Tyrese makes it clear that at least some members of the group have been imbibing a little and also implores Forbes to change itsForbes 400 list of the wealthiest people in America, although as Zack O’Malley Greenburg points out, the acquisition may not be quite enough to land Dre on the list.

Dre’s stake in Beats currently stands at somewhere around 20-25%… capital gains taxes could take a bite out of his big payday, likely leaving him with a net worth in the neighborhood of $800 million. It’s not quite enough to land on the Forbes 400, but it would easily make him hip-hop’s richest man, topping current champion Diddy by $100 million.
That’s still worth raising a few Heinekens in celebration. You can check out the full video below, but be warned: It contains strong language and definitely isn’t safe for work.
