So, I quit my cubicle job almost a year ago to move from a metro area back to a suburb near a college town. My girlfriend got the same job there and I wanted out of my job, so I took it as an excuse for a change; hoping to do big things. One year later, as they always say, I am still where I was when I got here...except a lot poorer and back in some debts. I've learned and studied a lot, tried some Craigslist flipping to stay afloat and get the juices turning, along with grind online poker. I'm to the point in my life where neither of those 2 will get me to where I want to go without a lot more work that I don't have time to focus on solely (doesn't bring in income quickly enough while I build up). I've wanted to stick with poker since I was "successful" over the past few years and devoted a lot of time to it. Never actually took the time to dive deep into it like I want to now, but it's like starting from scratch. I've dreamed of the traveling lifestyle while using it for the freedom.
Long story short, I'm looking for a job that either makes decent money that involves some people skills (bartending, etc) to keep me afloat while I keep working at poker or working on ideas for my own business that provides value....or, getting a sales job that goes off of commission.
My question comes in on the sales jobs. I am a firm believer in wanting to help people and sell something that improves their lives. However, I have a negative connotation associated with what most people sell:
*I don't believe in buying homes, even though I have interest in eventually owning M/F properties and possibly flipping homes.
*Have an interest in car sales, but selling people vehicles I have no control on the price and ripping people off doesnt appeal to me.
*Insurance is kind of sketchy to me...a lot of companies are just selling supplemental stuff that is unnecessary and found a lot in craigslist ads. However, this does provide base+commission opportunity.
Cliffs:
Basically, thinking like an entrepreneur and wanting to provide value badly to people has kind of messed with my mind in regards to a job. Finding it hard to sell stuff for people when I don't stand behind the product. I've read you should really pick out what you want to sell and start your own path. Any thoughts?
