Did you know Mark Zuckerburg:

- Has run a 5km race in 19:34 seconds

- Won Gold and Silver in his first Ju Jitsu tournament

- Did the "Murph Challenge" in under 40 mins
(running a mile, then doing 100 pull ups, 200 push ups, 300 squats, and then running another mile -- all while wearing a 20lb weighted pack)

This likely puts him in the top 0.1% fitness of people on this forum.

Which is absolutely crazy.

So I thought it would be fun to make a forum challenge - first one to complete all 3 of these gets $100 from me.

Just post up some legit proof that you actually did it.

If you feel like jumping in with your own gentlemans agreement wager then go for it.

I already got started on the running.

In around two weeks I have dropped my 5km time from "I can't actually run 5km" to this...

IMG_2620.PNG

But still a long way to go - I was wrecked by the end.

Had to look it up. I was on a running streak for a while but got an injury after this and haven't gone as hard. Need to add mileage without hurting myself as it interferes with my main sport.

This was last November but I can't do that now.

Worthy challenge. Sub 20min 5k is pretty difficult if you don't enjoy running .

This time might even be sandbagged. I may have stopped and rested and resumed timing. So real continuous run is likely a LOT slower.

Ya sub 20 minutes is really impressive for a non runner.

My brother has done running for years and his fastest related time to this is 5.3km in 19:20 mins.

Have you ever done Ju Jitsu @OMDA ?

Negative. I did some boxing and some shooting but I have never done anything like BJJ.

Can I adapt these slightly?
Karate - I have bronze medals from the European Championships in 2008 (potentially too long ago and I'd never get close again).

I've never tried Murph but may have to give it a go.

Running is my thing pb 18.07 (really want to get below 18mins) but this image will do for now

Yesterday did 3 sets of 6 pull ups with 42lb in the backpack, new PR.

The challenge is for "all three" meaning one has to win a Ju Jitsu medal ? Or you mean just the "Murph Challenge" ?

I've never done Ju Jitsu but i've been wanting to start boxing.

Hold on! What is the complete all 3? The 5k run in under 20, and the murphy challenge. That’s 2. Is the 3rd to get gold in Jiu Jitsu tournament?.

I love a challenge and would happily attempt the first 2, I would have to work on the Jiu Jitsu… I have a background in Judo and boxing and coincidentally am joining a Jiu Jitsu class in a couple weeks.

Also kudos and thanks for the video idea, seems like it would be a fun idea. Have some arrangements the next few days, but if I can find access to a 20lb weight pack I will do the murph challenge asap.

Edit: this thread got me fired up… going to go run a 5km fartlek right now. :praise:

Wow fair play! That’s fast.

I think we keep it for Ju Jitsu (but that’s amazing with the Karate). I’ve read Ju Jitsu can be started at nearly at age so we are all on a leveling playing field, plus it would make it all current too. (If you meet me in person feel free to give me a solid karate chop for not switching the rules ha).

And - ya, for the people asking about the ju jitsu rules - I think it should be to win some kind of competition (at any level). It forces us to compete, which makes it a tough challenge.

The Murph Challenge blows my mind. Are you kidding? That's a lot of pullups... I need to get on this.
Currently I'm back on swimming, I'm a breaststroke swimmer and my times are 29 / 1:04 for yards, so if I could do this Murph challenge I'd probably be a lot faster in the pool. My 5k was 21 mins so got a couple mins to catch the Zuck...

Update: I tried this. 31 pull-ups. No weighted vest. Only 80 push-ups after with lots of rest. What Zuck did is extremely impressive.

What came first the fitness or the success
I'm not sure but I believe the mindsets go together. It's about achievement, wanting to be your best, and generally caring about yourself. What is your why for business? It's similar for your health.

You want a good life. You want to be "unkillable" financially - right? So you probably also want a strong body if you desire a strong bank account. Same type of person, usually.

What came first the fitness or the success
Fitness is not a direct cause of success.
Success is not a direct cause of fitness.

There is just an extremely strong correlation between the two.

My best guess is that:
  • winners want to win in all areas of life (including business and fitness)
  • successful people are usually more conscious of their health, hence they are more likely to exercise
  • getting good results in both business and fitness requires a process oriented approach and a strong desire to put in a lot of work
  • entrepreneurs have figured out that this is the best stress-management tool in the box

This is a business forum, and some of the most discussed topics here are health and fitness, and all my boys are lifting heavy weights (e.g. @PureA @Spenny). @MJ DeMarco was also bodybuilding at some point, not sure if he's still into it.

There has to be something to it lol. You don't see the same interest in fitness on reddit.

I've ran that time for 5km and substantially faster. I've also ran faster than 19:XX per 5km over the 10k.

This "Murph" challenge sounds easy. Genuinely. 20lb is less than 10kg. Thats like two muddy football boots and a bottle of lucozade sport in a rucksack. Not heavy. 40mins is a long time.

I've tried BJJ but I don't know. It made me feel.....a bit gay. I don't want to feel a bit gay ever again so I won't be doing that one thanks very much.

Wanted a good judge of where I'm at currently.
Ran 1.6 miles continuosly then stopped to walk and then ran another .4 miles.

Not zuck territory. When I finished my watch beeped in a mocking tone.

I'm not as fit as Zuck.

I threw on a 25 lb vest, ran the mile, did 60 pull ups, 75 push ups, 90 squats, then caffeine caught up with me and I had to run to the bathroom.

That took me just under 30 minutes, so I wasn't going to beat Zuck anyway.

I'll do it again tomorrow. Should take around an hour.

I'm not doing any of these weird things, but I can punch harder than Zuckerberg, drink him under the table, and I'll wager$1,000 I outlive him by 40 years. Despite being several years older. So there, whippersnappers!
