The 10k I was off of my goal by about 28 seconds but I ran it with a much steeper hill at the end than I anticipated and it was about 85F so I am happy.

I have found a lot of interval work has done well for me with training for ultras, and a lot of stationary biking at night in the living room with my wife. I am a fan of Ben Greenfield a biohacker and Ironman, I have tested and found a hybrid blend of his methods and Eric Orton work well for me. Do I win races? Of course not, but I can run a 12 hour timed ultra, 7800' of elevation with minimal training time. I believe that race I got up to 50 miles for the week, about 15-20 running (mostly on lunch at work) and the rest on the stationary bike.
Awesome work I’d consider that a success.

I’ve never done interval work of any kind or really properly trained for any race I’ve done and it walkways winds up killing me.

I ran a 50 miler with conditioning just from doing CrossFit (which I no longer do) so I totally believe you can get into great shape and build capacity without just spending time on your legs running. Although that does clearly help.

What do your intervals look like for example? I just picked up a garmin forerunner and haven’t really messed around with it too much but I’m doing the recommended “base”. Runs right now which are essentially just a time and a pace and you just run without keeping track of distance.

Harder than I thought because I tend to run faster than I should every time usually in a zone 4 for almost the whole run which isn’t great. These base runs force me to slow down and stay under that and focus on form more which I’ve found makes me feel way better on the runs. Although I do see a time and place for higher intensity runs.

I don’t know much about the right way to run or train honestly I just always kind of did it and it’s always sucked but that’s also why I do it lol
