Damn...he's claiming that it's an original design that coincidentally ended up being super similar to the aliexpress model.

He's been called out on Reddit multiple times already too.

Our first prototypes were pretty clunky, and cost between $200-$400 just for the parts, but they worked well and proved the concept. It sounds that way but it seems to be a careful choice of words. "Created a model" could mean we created an anonabox out of hardware from China and Tor software.

From what it looks like, people seem pissed that he misrepresented 1. the "open source" part and 2. the chipboard model he "created".

TL;DR: Reddit is mad that he hasn't published code, even though it's open source (misrepresentation #1) and he claims in his AMA that the board is custom rather than an Aliexpress product (misrepresentation #2).

So if you're looking for some time to kill, you should check it out.
