A friend of mine gifted me his Kindle Touch 6 months ago. He bought it in late 2011. He never used it. When I got it from him it was still in the box.
I've been using it for the past 6 months without problems. I never once connected to the internet until today. I would convert my writing to pdf files and use the kindle to proof read my writing highlighting things that need changed.
Today I decided that I wanted to start shopping on Amazon for kindle books (BIG MISTAKE FOR ME).
I connected the Kindle to my network and proceeded to register with Amazon. I ran into an error so I called amazon for assistance. Customer support was able to help me register the Kindle in less than 5 minutes. I thanked support and hung up. My device was now registered. I then set a ebook from the cloud to my device.
No more than five minutes had gone by since I had gotten off the phone with customer service, and the device began to update without prompt or choice. After the progress bar of the update reached about 50% the device screen flashed and went to the "Kindle Tree Screen". It has been stuck there ever since.
I called Customer service and they walked me through all of the trouble shooting steps. None of them worked. At the end of the conversation I was informed that the device would no longer function- at all -correctly. I was then informed that there are no options to fix it.
I was told that the solution to fix my problem was to buy another kindle at a reduced price. The customer service rep said he would be sending me an email with the information on getting a kindle at a reduced price. I didn't really think this was satisfactory considering that there is no doubt that Amazons update broke my kindle. Had I never registered the device to Amazon the kindle would still be 100% functional. To add insult to injury the information sent to me by email was nothing more than a list of refurbished kindles at the same price anyone would pay.
I like the kindle touch. I like the way I can convert my word docs to pdf and read them without direct light straining my eyes.
I would gladly buy another one and chalk it as a lesson learned (Do not use kindles service unless you have a warranty!), but I really can’t afford it. Ever dollar I have is tied up.
I didn't ask for an update, I wasn't even warned that it would happen. Amazon force fed my device an update that killed it! Murdered It! DESTROYED IT!
I used this kindle everyday for the past six months. It worked perfect until today. As a matter of fact it worked all the way up until I connected to Amazon.
I can’t believe that the only answer they have is “I understand your problem (We broke your kindle), Nothing we can do, buy another one”. I’m not the only person that this has ever happened to. This has been going on for some time. A quick Google search will pull hundreds of stories up.
I’m thinking about starting a website- “Amazon[insert point to get across here.com”, maybe a podcast, some youtube videos -and having my brother make a rap song.<<<Thats how pissed I am. I blew a gasket today something I haven't done in a long time.
