Hi folks,
To cut a long story short, I bumped into an old school friend around a week ago. We began discussing our current situations and where life has generally taken us. I mentioned to him I was in the process of developing a new website offering a number of services but was built on the classified advertising basis. He currently owns a similar website situated within the UK, has done for just under two years now receiving approx 100,00 unique visitors per month. I assumed he was making the most of this and had monetized the site, in actual fact he hasn't. He isn't charging a dime for anything, neither is he making money.
Can he set to profit from these types of visitors? From what I've gathered (I know very little about advertising) he may be able to target visitors with advertisements within a certain category. For example, a category aimed at promoting car dealers will display adverts relating to car sales. Is this correct? Can he expect to a profit, most importantly would it even be worth it?
I may be going a little over the top here, I was just a little shocked when he mentioned visitor numbers and he'd never considered advertising atleast to cover hosting costs.
Many thanks!
