I have been using this technique for several years (I forget who to give credit to for this idea)... many of my competitors have gone out of biz or bankrupted due to the declining economy. (retail)

my experience? it's definitely brought more sales. But this strategy has also been somewhat problematic.

Attorneys and collectors continue to call incessantly for the original businesses looking for money and threatening legal action despite the fact that we have absolutely nothing to do with the businesses that I took the phone numbers from.

Also, customer service calls have dramatically jumped which has parlayed into a whole new client base, but much more costly to grow....
