Another introduction from another new member.

My name is Devin. I live in a small town in Oregon and I recently turned 20. I have high aspirations in life but not once have I done anything to achieve my goals. And that’s why I’m here.

I currently work in a warehouse for 10 hours a day, 4 days a week making $13 an hour. Albeit an improvement from my prior jobs, it’s not what I want to be doing for the rest of my life. Just like everyone else here, I want to be a millionaire. But I want to be a millionaire so that I have the freedom to do anything, and without worry. I want to be rich so that I can help my parents, my family, my friends, and the people around me. So that I can live my life without worrying about being able to pay my rent, car insurance, etc. To do the things I love with the people I love.

That’s who I want to be.

My one major flaw is that I have ZERO discipline. I’ll start with something, get really excited about it for a few weeks, and then just stop like it never even happened. But that goes with everything in my life from video games and TV shows, to going to the gym and hobbies. That’s the main thing that I need to work on.

I started reading TMF recently. I haven’t even gotten half way through the book and it’s already changing the way I think (Or maybe that’s just me getting excited about a new thing I found). I just hope that this will be the one thing that I can stick with and never lose interest in. This is where I’ll be making a change in my life for the better.

My problem is that I feel I need to surround myself with like-minded people who want to be successful in life (hence why I’m here). I see people who I went to high school with, post on social media a screenshot of their bank balance and it’s appalling. I have $450 in a tin can under my desk and that is $450 more than what they have in their banks. And they haven’t done anything to try and change that. In my town of 8,000, most of who are on food stamps or other government programs, it’s hard to find anyone who shares the same mindset. The one person that I’ve been able to find is my girlfriend. Both of her parents spent years in college to become doctors where they make $5k+ each for 2 weeks of work. That’s amazing. But they’re trading time for work, and I’d much rather have that in passive income.

But I don’t even know where to start besides here.

A little diddy about my life in an Oregon city. I intend on being an active member here and I really do want to make a change in my life. I've read through multiple threads on the forum and one post that really hit me was by Vigilante on a 1 year post.

Some people register here, post epic 1AM excitement induced rants, and never log in again as their Subway Sandwich Artist career flounders.

Yet another group registers, racks up a significant post count, zero speed/rep bank, and stays for years. If I owned the place, I would bounce them out much like you might a 29 year old child still living in your basement.

A third group comes in here talking the talk, but not walking the walk. They may get some rep, and even have some good posts, but later you learn they're actually pizza delivery drivers. Much like a kid that grew up in the church, they might know the right words to say, but don't really get the theology for themselves. They just regurgitate what they heard.

Then... there are people like YOU. YOU are who MJ wrote the book for. YOU are who MJ built the forum for. YOU are the reason people like me hang out here.

Courage. Transformation. Guts and determination. You'll get there. You are an #ActionTaker

That speaks to me because I'm usually the one to get excited but never come back again. But I want to be the determined one that gets shit done for a change.

Thank you MJ. And I accept your challenge.

I look forward to not only finishing TMF but reading everything else that you put out. I'd also love some recommendations for more books to read!

I can relate to what you're feeling.

I dabbled in social media marketing when I was 16/17-- made some decent money, but eventually I let it slide (it wasn't something I wanted to be in).

I went to an average university studying an average degree and had an average mindset. I ended up leaving towards the end of the first year knowing that I wanted to do things differently.

I received TMF as a present for Christmas 14'. I finally picked it up during the beginning of February and finished it within a week. It changed my mindset and I finally got to some real work. Fast forward to now, I closed off 2016 with over 7 figures in sales.

There's a few things I've learnt: there may not always be people around you to motivate you (your network/area), but there are ALWAYS people around. My greatest business (and some personal) relations have been made over the very thing you're reading this on right now. Go out of your way to form groups of like minded people. Give as much as you get to these people, because if you don't, it'll never work.

Another thing. Motivation is fucking awesome. But, it doesn't last, and you shouldn't rely on it. Everybody gets motivated. It's the people who build habits and persevere that succeed. I've been there countless times both for personal and business improvements. Just know that its not some people can do it and others can't, building habits and perseverance can be learnt and the way to do that is by forcing yourself to. If you want it enough you will do it. If you don't want it enough, you won't do it.

Lastly, entrepreneurship is learnt imo. When I look back to my former self roughly 2-years ago, I almost laugh. It's crazy how much I've developed, and anything I venture into now is lightyears easier for me than it would have been back then.

In the end it's about being original, working smart, and persevering. You will eventually get a taste of success, and that's when the fun really begins ;). If you can remember just one thing, make it that.

Thank you LJB, I really appreciate you taking the time to write that out. It really helps.

I always look back and think to myself "Why didn't I do something back then? Why did I stay on the same path even though I hated it?" I never acted upon my instincts. I've always thought that I shouldn't go to college, plainly for the fact the I didn't want to be swamped in student loan debt just to go work in another dead end job (Don't get me wrong though, I want to go to college because I love learning). And yet, here I am trading 4-3. I have done nothing so far and it bugs me that it's taken this long to start doing instead of thinking.

But that's in the past, and I need to stop looking back there and focus on what's ahead of me.

I understand where you're coming from... it's human nature to get upset by looking back and thinking why didn't I do this or that sooner.

BUT, being real with you now, you're 20 years old. You're young as fuck. If you were 50 I might be able to sympathise with you, but at 20 years old you're younger than most people on this forum.

You know the only way to stop this shitty feeling? (And yes, I've felt it too, it's human nature after all)

You just need to get out there and do it. There is literally no other remedy.

And trust me, you will still feel this way about things but with one difference. By actually getting out and doing it, you'll be left thinking, 'if only I had started this a year ago, I'd probably be making $XX,XXX by now. Ah well, I'm making $X,XXX right now and soon enough I'll get to $XXX,XXX.'

And actually that's a pretty good feeling.

Organized and downsized clutter in my room and got rid of distractions (Video games & social media notifications).

Also downloaded the audiobook for TMF.

you should befriend other 20 years old guys here. instead of being isolated you guys should make a special topic to help each other as young fastlaners.

i am not kidding, i am brainstorming so you can learn the best way.

i remember when i was a student, we worked together in rooms

same thing here: share your thoughts with others 20 years old guys

    That's a good idea.

I've always been a lurker on forums. This time I plan to pay my dues and give back how much I take in.

The only problem for me with the group idea is that I have no knowledge on the subject yet so I wouldn't be able to share ideas any time soon.

don't worry, this is not the point. people don't expect you to be a guru at 20.

people expect you to brainstorm and be pro active.

you the 20 years old guys have energy that we the 40 years old guys have lost

because you haven't yet been destroyed by adversity, despair and so on.

so you have no bad habits of thoughts, you have energy to spend whether the thing is possible or not

this is called youthful folly in the i ching ( chinese book)

so you must take advantage of it

Recently I've been reading up more on a niche that I have been interested in for a while. I know a lot of people who can provide good insight on the subject as well.

I'm here and I'm learning. Now I need to get ready for my 10 hour shift. Just more a reason to start grinding.

Funny. I was roll racing my buddy on the highway on our way to work while MJ was discussing WCCA and moronic risks on the audio book.

At the same time we passed 2 cars on the opposite side that had been involved in an accident.

Made me think that maybe I shouldn't be doing that.

    Hey Devin

This is my first post on here as I've been lurking for quite some time; like you mentioned, it's quite easy to sit by and not involve yourself in the community when you feel as though you have nothing to really bring to the table.

Anyway, I wanted to reach out to you because I'm in a part of my life that is seemingly similar to yours.
I'm 22 and young like yourself, I share your aspirations but I often suffer the same issues that are holding you and a lot of wantrepreneurs back. But I'm making changes in multiple areas of my life, some irrelevant, but also Fastlane endeavors and really a total shift in mindset as addressed in TMF. Just as you said, I also want to get shit done.

In regards to the group idea mentioned above, I'd gladly be your accountability partner if you wanted. We can bounce off of one another's ideas, goals, struggles, whether it be Fastlane related or just life in general. Perhaps provide insight and that extra bit of courage and push to turn that wanting into doing.

Like you I'm just beginning as well and only recently have I taken an embarrassingly small amount of action; but it's that first initial step that is the hardest yet most important. Get going and stop living in regret.

Hope to see you in my Inbox.

Talking to people at my work about why I want to become an entrepreneur and they just don't understand it. They tell me that they'd rather work a job for the rest of their life then retire.

To each their own I guess.

That's common with a lot of people, especially those comfortably working the 9-5. A lot of people look at us like we are crazy, lost our minds. Don't let that get to you.... Not everyone wants to be an entrepreneur and that's fine nothing wrong with that! They enjoy the comfort and security of their income. (Security) so many think until an unfortunate event happens. Any who, find like minded people and share with them not only will they provide honest feedback but support. Don't forget the large community of like minded individuals you have here. At first my own family thought I was crazy when I told them my plans

It's actually a positive for you that they want to work their whole lives as long as you don't succumb to their way of life. Consumers are needed for our present and future businesses to survive.

If that's what they want to do then more power to them! I just know that it's not what I have planned for my life.

I've already started talking with other members on here and forming bonds. Really am trying to change who I spend my time with. And I'm also surprised how much support I get from my parents. They're fully on board with it.

Nothing but truth here. I don't ever plan on seeing myself getting to their mindset. If that's what they want to do then so be it.

    The Lone Entrepreneur (SinisterLex's Youtube)

Watch @SinisterLex 's video on the OP of this thread ^^^

    It's good stuff.

Shows the right attitude concerning the "desert of desertion" that is a very real thing for us entrepreneurs.

Most people won't understand it. Most people just want comfort, ya know? As you said "to each their own"

At first it irritated the hell out of me that people didn't think the same way, or even pushed back and became discouraging. But I got over it haha. Some relationships ended, some got even better as a result. Part of the process for sure.

Don't let it get to you. Once you prove to yourself you can get results in the fastlane (the first $ you make without a "job"), you'll realize it's not that big of deal in the long run.

    Welcome to the forum.

    Welcome!

Start by replacing your bad habits with good habits. Even if it's just one small habit a day to begin with.

I recommend The Greatest Salesman in the World by Og Mandino. One of my favorite books.

Well I kind of fucked up.

Got off hours early from work and wasted most of it. Then today was spent mending relationships. Tomorrow morning I should get the book finished.
