Not sure what's going to happen! Either the company absorbs a 66% AI price increase, or developers use 66% less AI.
My team, 30% less people than your case, last 15 days we have paid for over 350 million of tokens.
So I think this is where things get interesting, when you're dealing on an organizational level. Everything we discussed so far here, has just been on a personal level. When you get to that org level, depending on your plan, if you have like an enterprise plan, usually there's some kind of volume discount, so you're not paying retail prices. If you're not on Enterprise Plan, then just ignore that last part.
But anyways, this is where you want to utilize AI "the proper way". You want to token optimize not token max in this case. For a team, you want some kind of training on an org level. Whether it's someone familiar with the matter, like an internal employee. or you bring in an outside source. Depending on the plan you have. You may have a contact with your claude rep. In which case they can do a demo or do like a lunch and learn type situation to have kind of like a class, a lesson if you will.
Anyways what I'm getting at is, we want to have someone do some kind of presentation like 30 minutes to an hour. Just talking about things like:
- We need to also have discussion about token usage. And here are ways to optimize
- You don't have to use opus for everything.
- You dont want to have long running chats because the longer the chat is, the more tokens used.
- So you want to use one chat window or a chat session per task. Once that's done start a new session
- if you're using MCP, make sure that session actually needs to use an MCP otherwise it's also using tokens. So just be mindful of that.
- This is where having great context type files come I to play. agent.md files, etc,
Like file types listed here: How Claude remembers your project - Claude Code Docs
Basically, anything they can help prep or guide the AI model will help to optimize it.
- Then share those configs amongst the team, so not everyone has to reinvent the wheel and thus use tokens when someone else already came up with a solid workflow/plan
Those are just some examples. In this case, we're going against what everyone on internet is saying about token maxing and what we want to do then, is token optimization.
You token max on a subscription max plan for $100 to $200 for Claude or Codex not when you're paying API token prices.
I hope what i said makes sense.
