Well, looks like it's about time to pull the ripcord on discord...

They've updated their terms of service. "Misinformation" and "disinformation" are no longer allowed...

Anyone have recommendations for a discord alternative that isn't on the woketard train?

As judged by some Gen-Z'er who just graduated from Cal Berkeley with a degree in gender studies and now heads up their "content moderation" team.

Yeah I deleted Discord a while back. They log and sell everything you say / do. Also banned from a lot of servers there just for admitting that I dislike masks and won't get "vaxinated" until long term studies (5 years+) like every nootropic/supplement/peptide I use...

How about a server with your own forum software for Control?

I haven't had a forum in a long time so I don't know the current players for self hosted software. Your hosting company probably has something free.

Also, I'm not sure if this is useful or not to you. It looks like Scott Adams, Tulsi Gabbard, Dan Bongino and others are on locals

I really don't know much about it, however.

But men can get pregnant and gender is fluid. So I guess misinformation is okay as long as it's "woke". Hey @MJ, where TF is my pregnant man emoji?????

Federated/decentralized or self-hosted is the way to go. Every centralized platform I've seen is on the same track to eventual wokeness and are just 6 months or so behind at most. Not worth investing your time in them, sadly.

Teamspeak are coming up with a competitor soon. There's Aether.app but hasn't been updating much lately. Matrix.org is also neat. Haven't found any worth committing to, though.

If you do come across a solid alternative that isn't like some convoluted irc-based P2P VoIP setup I'd love to hear it.

Random thread - random question to FLF people.

Do any of you want an "Ask me anything in RE Development?"

I've been thinking about adding something tangible to FLF, most people here are focused on a million different business ideas. I am a developer and don't know much about anything else. Yet the business is so hard to enter (big capital required, in-depth knowledge of many subjects) that I assume my field of experience is useless for 99.9% of members here. Hence this random question.

I find property development super interesting. Maybe not because I will end up doing it, but because I love land and properties and buildings.

I'm not personally interested in RE development at my stage in life right now, perhaps in the future. I think others on the forum interested in entering RE would love it. However, I listened to your interview on Kak's podcast, and I really enjoyed it. It was the first episode of his I listened. I like your thought process about entrepreneurship. If you wrote a post about the biggest lessons you learned on your entrepreneurship journey, mindset changes to take your business to the next level, tactics you've used to enter a hard business field, leveraging capital effectively, life wisdom in general, and etc., I think it would be cool and beneficial for a lot of us. If not, I guess I'll be the one eager person to read it.

Property development seems like a great way to actively invest and store value. Being informed on the topic can't hurt. A high barrier of entry is a good thing for those looking to break it.

I find it difficult to believe that the information is useless unless it's highly-localized bureaucratic/legal stuff. If principles and generally-applicable ideas are discussed I'm sure there's much more use there than you think, if not today, then in the future when there's a property value shakeup, more pressure to store wealth, or people simply having the urge and opportunity to get into this type of thing.

Would your insights be applicable for someone bringing capital from a developed nation and building projects in a developing region? I know opportunities locally here where you can develop commercial or multi-family residential real estate in high-demand areas for under $1mil. In growing areas can probably get away even with $300k or so. Your average American entrepreneur can probably dish out $100k to get started with something like this.

Would it be that hard to find 9 other such investors to get the ball rolling if they have the know-how? I don't think so.

Personally I will want to have only 10% or so of my portfolio locked in RE, and I am already somewhat overleveraged in that regard, but when my overall capital grows and the margin drops I'll definitely be looking to rebalance in an active way- why not with a % investment in someone else's RE Dev project? Being informed and understanding how the industry works in that case will be key to evaluating the potential of the project before investing in it, right?

Just because most people aren't able or interested in dishing out $50mil for some industrial conglomerate doesn't mean the lessons you have to teach aren't applicable to their future.

Is there a way to get involved in a decentralized form with lower capital in exchange for marginal equity? Say you've got a promising project, get 80% of the capital from bigshot investors but need a bit more. Could you get the remaining 20% from 500 small investors to get the ball rolling? And if so, is it more profitable for the investor than holding their cash at some bank that's going to go bankrupt in 5 years anyway?

Lots of interesting ideas to discuss, I'm sure.

Go ahead and find out. I can always put it in the FL Digest for more reach if no one bites. But yea, it is a bit of a hard nut to crack when you're chilling in a studio apartment.

I think everyone here would love it. It’s relevant and transferable to many overlapping businesses - project management, financing, building, marketing, raising money... so many things to learn from what you do (I don’t even know what I don’t know about what you do!)

These things are not only useful for big real estate developers. Holistic education is a thing. There is value for everyone there.

Yes!!

Let me save a lot of you some trouble: your problems aren't nearly as dramatic as you're making them out to be. Not even close.

Oh, your pissed at your friend / family member / roommate / coworker / employee over something?

Oh, you think that bringing it up will bring up some dramatic Hollywood scene with theme music, shouting, and special effects?

Get real - you'll have to deal with 5-10 minutes of tension, followed by relief, followed by respect from the other person, followed by laughter at the fact that you thought your stupid problem was a big deal to begin with.

Most of you aren't dealing with serious problems - you're fretting because you're living in a culture that teaches you to be permanently neurotic and to spaz out about non-issues.

Now excuse me, I'm gonna grab another drink and chase chicks. Have a great night.

As joe rogan likes to constantly point out.

Most people have never dealt with real adversity.

The worst thing that’s happened to you is always the worst thing that’s happened to you.

For some that’s their dad cut their allowance off for a week. For others it’s far worse.

Yes.

It requires a bit of work & learning. Since you'll have to self-host it. It's like a DIY Discord.

It's called Matrix: Matrix.org

Here's how it looks when it's all set & done:-

Most of the forum's opinion posts across the past two years aren't authentic posts by people on this forum.

They're the thoughts and words of major podcasters speaking through people on this forum.

Lately, the forum feels a lot like this...

cypher.gif

I don't even see the posts... All I see is Joe Rogan, Ben Shapiro, Tucker Carlson, Jordan Peterson...

Minds can be controlled by new media as easily as they were controlled by the old.

Maybe your favorite podcaster has your best interests at heart.

Maybe they are authentically good people who want to change the world for the better.

Money still moves behind them. Money motivates control.

I'm going to try not to take this personally since I referenced Joe Rogan a couple posts above but I also don't see your point.

Unless you are drawing from your own experiences or opinions then of course you are going to reference something else.

This is why people read books, listen to podcasts, have mentors and take courses. That's why people bounce ideas and have progress threads on this forum. So they can learn from all these peoples thoughts and experiences and take what they like and leave the rest. You may have got one specific thought or idea from someone but it's still something that you decided you liked and chose to keep.

Why single out podcasts? Because they are new? I read some of the posts in the Ukraine thread and I feel like I'm watching CNN, someone else in there shared an exert from Ray Dalios book, others shared thier experience of having family there.

Or take TMF , there are people outside of this forum making millions drop shipping but no one here would ever recommend anyone do that because of CENTs. Is reading a book and sharing thoughts and opinions you got from a book somehow different?

My post wasn't referring to your post. That was a coincidence. I listen to some of the podcasts above, especially Joe Rogan (and others) and was thinking about the messages and the time spent listening/watching, and the way ideas come through posts (including my own) and what that could mean.

I'm not singling out podcasts necessarily. "Influencers" or "new media" would be better. I don't know if Tucker Carlson even has a podcast.

I guess it's a reminder to beware of the potential for new media to guide thoughts and attention as much as old media. The process for it to occur is the same.

Hold Attention > Present Ideas > Shape Worldview

The process of belief change that cults use follows this:

Unfreeze Current Beliefs > Change Beliefs > Refreeze New Beliefs

Media does it like this:

Hold Attention > Present Priming Ideas > Present Target Ideas > Shape Worldview

When you consume ideas, and you rush to share an idea ("you" meaning whoever, not specifically you), how much time have you spent thinking about where those ideas came from? What are the motivations behind those ideas and how would you even know? How many times were those ideas primed by other thoughts and ideas previously presented in order to ready you to accept the current idea, and how has all of this potentially shaped your current perspective, beliefs, and worldview?

I see opinions shared as fact rather than shared as ideas. It is this way rather than, here's a way that it may be. So it becomes easy to slide into polarized perspectives and in-fighting. Because it is not a discussion of ideas, it's a battle of perspectives of certainty that you may not even agree with or hold under different contexts.

The point is that it is wise to remember to question what you think you know is true. Question everything, even ideas you like and that you think you agree with.

What if MJ is wrong? What if CENTS is bullshit?

I am NOT saying that either of those are true. But they could be, and if they were true, then how would I ever see that if I just took some ideas that I think I agree with and hold them as definitely true without question?

I think @Lex DeVille & @MitchC both have good points.

I know this will be considered a bad takeaway but it's why I've mostly stopped reading books and listening to podcasts. Most people are completely full of shit. I'll only consume their content if I do A LOT of research on them first and feel they have little ulterior motives (MJ for example).

I was guilty of the opposite when I was 18 and being too humble and trusting others that I looked up to too much, instead of my gut instinct and experience.

Or take TMF , there are people outside of this forum making millions drop shipping but no one here would ever recommend anyone do that because of CENTs. Is reading a book and sharing thoughts and opinions you got from a book somehow different?

I think if you analyse each of the points of the "Fastlane" philosophy, you will come to the same conclusion. Building a Fastlane business will have a much higher likelihood of success than drop shipping.

I'm also typing this looking at all the books and MJ's "99% vs 1% Thinking" Poster on my wall, so I'm aware that I may be in a cult.

I've been thinking about a similar approach. I don't spend much time on new books. I re-read the books that have had a positive influence on my life up to this point. Podcasts on the other hand... I've been getting sucked up in those a lot. I DO think MJ is authentic, so I hope that doesn't get lost in the mix. It wasn't my intent to say he is anything but the real deal.

When I consume media, I try to do it as objectively as possible to sort through what is being said and to help determine my worldview. Sometimes my view should change. Sometimes it shouldn't. Sometimes I don't need to have a view.

MJ's book isn't what tells me that his ideas aren't bullshit. Experience tells me that MJ's approaches are NOT bullshit. Questioning those ideas. Testing them. Not just reading and analysis, but having skin in the game.
