Hello, I would like to know how much approximately it would cost to build a website like Eventbrite with registration, where people can list their own events. Also, where can I find good developers for reasonable prices?

You think you can copy a billion dollar business by simply hiring a web developer?

I don't want to copy, the events would be in a specific niche, Eventbrite doesn't do this kind of events. Basically virtual reality events, there are many different worlds and apps in VR where people do events, like a church in VR, people geo to church in Virtual Reality with their VR headsets, so this would be one example of vr events. I go to VR cinemas, there are VR live concerts with real DJs and performers. There are schools and classes in VR, I go to sign language classes every Tuesday in with a real teacher. I can't find anything similar now, VR is very early yet, but growing very fast.

I think that the problem with his question is that it's a question along the lines of "how much does a car cost".
Well, it could be 500 USD as well as 500k USD.
I personally don't know much about IT and web design, so can't give you specific answers.
But my understanding is that you don't want to copy the business itself, just create a similiar website/platform when it comes to looks/how it works etc.
Then we have many pros on this forum, I guess they should be able to give you more specific answers, maybe?

You would need a team to actually have the site created and maintained. You ought to actually look into web design yourself so that you can see what you can do on your own. It will also help for hiring people as you'll be able to know how long certain aspects should take and you'll be able to explain how two different employees can link their works. Udacity has some free courses including one that is so good, Stanford (yes, that Stanford) actually lets their freshman take that course and then take a test instead of sitting through the entire course at the school.

Depending on how much of the marketplace you are building and how much infrastructure for the events you are providing, you are looking at a significant cost to hire a developer for an application like this. In most scenarios, if you are asking "how much does it cost?", you will need to bring on a technology partner or an angel investor.

General advice as a younger developer in college, when someone reaches out to me about their ideas (which happens at least once a month), I am looking for a couple of things...
- You need a really solid plan and a really solid market
- You need proof you can execute that plan (what experience do you have to help you on the way?)
- You need to be focused on iterative development and starting small

Also, most developers will want an equity share in the company you are building. Websites and services like these aren't something that can be developed once and never change. They require active development, improvement, and fixes. You will need an ongoing relationship with a developer. This equity share should be substantial and carefully considered. Remember if your digital product doesn't work, your business doesn't work.

If you are not providing equity share, you should expect to pay at least $100 an hour for freelance work because you will need a full-stack developer, or perhaps $50-75 an hour for both a front-end and back-end developer.
Full-stack developers are broader and they can work on backend stuff such as databases and APIs as well as front-end stuff such as how the pages or buttons look on TheFastlaneForum.com.

Hope this was helpful!

Full-stack web-dev here who has also managed overseas devs on UpWork

I'll provide a rough estimate based on the work description and my assumption for your software engineering management experience.

Total Time and Price is based on avg 40hr/week

LocationHourly RateTotal TimeTotal Price
China$158 months$19,200
India$256 months$24,000
South America$355 months$28,000
Europe$604 months$38,400
America$804 months$51,200

Where to find them? UpWork or Fiver are fine.

How to vet them? If you know nothing about web dev, you'll need to have a web dev friend or a hired consultant do the interviews to find the right freelancer.

Total Time should be adjusted based on your software engineering management ability, the language barrier between you and the dev, and the time-zone difference between you and the dev.

Before embarking on this, be absolutely sure it's the right next step. There are countless ways to provide value to your target audience without building a full custom app.

Hope that helps!

Building something like Eventbrite from scratch cannot be done by single developer , you need a development departments with all the product and project managers to get the software up and running .
The other option is to start with some open source software and modify it to serve your needs , and here you need a web developer based on tech stack of that software, it can start from 10 /hour to $50/hour

Start with something off the shelf.

Sounds like you have a legitimate idea. Building a website has nothing to do with the value you're trying to create.

Do you mean to create something with WordPress? I would be able to create a wordpress website with event management plugins and buy a nice template. I think I can create something similar to what I want with WordPress.

Right, Wordpress or anything else that works. I would start with the simplest, fastest thing that gets your value across to the people who are really looking for it.

You use VR and you're looking for VR events. If I sent you a link to a Google Sheet listing 200 interesting VR events happening soon, would you be mad?
