Hey there,

What's up fastlaners! My name is Diego, and I currently live in Taiwan (please don't confuse it with Thailand).

I'm now 21 years old and in my 3rd year of a 6-year Dentistry program. Although Dentistry is one of the highest-paying professions here, I know I want so much more out of life than working in a hospital for 8 hours a day, coming home, vegging out on Sex Education, and repeating this daily life sentence for 30, 40 more years.

I take interest in sooooooo many more cool things, such as piano, rapping, street calisthenics, magic, MMA, languages, acting, writing, drawing, animating, coding...

For more than 2 years, I've always been interested in running a self-improvement YouTube channel but never started due to shitty excuses. However, now, I'm actually glad that I didn't blindly dive right in because many channels I looked up to have now tapered off (1-2M subscribers with ~10k views per video). These videos still contain invaluable information but lack entertainment, which I see a huge opportunity in filling up the gap.

Last year, I started making some cringy self-improvement posts and infographics on Instagram. Now I have already received dozens of DM's saying that my page provides much more unique insights than those big "motivational" pages (100k+ followers).

However, my traction still sucks, which I've now realized is due to lack of branding and attention grabbers. Therefore, I've decided to switch gears to focus on making videos that not only share life mantras but are also ultra-entertaining/-engaging. Because nobody gives a shit about me! If I can't make people want to watch my content, I have nobody to blame but myself!

I will post my first video soon. I know growing virally isn't easy, but now possessing both the vision and the roadmap, I will trust the process and continue grinding. All it takes is ONE big hit!

As for the future, I still plan to graduate Dentistry (since the living cost + tuition here is the same as in the U.S., only in different currencies , i.e. 30 times cheaper). I now know for sure that I don't want to spend 1/3 of my life in the hospital, but I still enjoy studying and working with hands-on operations. Plus, this experience combined with the ability to memorize a colossal amount of information and learn deeply in a short time can surely give me an edge in entrepreneurship.

Nevertheless, meanwhile, I need to audit every second of my time spent and devote massive action toward my YouTube pursuits. That means less time eating out with my friends or checking Instagram 87 times a day and more time staring at Adobe Premiere in my room.

When I master viral video marketing, I will plow some big bucks working with companies and content creators struggling to gain customers/audience. I know this isn't as "fastlane" as building an app, but surely has high market needs and low competition (there are a gazillion digital marketing services out there, but I don't know many (or any) that focus on making viral video content with potent supporting stats).

I started reading TMF several days ago and am about 2/3 through. And I gotta say, this book red-pills me more than all the self-help books I've read combined. MJ DeMarco is the real-life Morpheus. I originally planned to read The Millionaire Next Door. Now? Thanks but no thanks!

If you're still reading, THANK YOU! As you can tell, I'm overly excited about this journey, but I'm no longer a wannabe. Now armed with some failed experiences, I know exactly what I need to do and how to "get rich quick", but not easy! Cheers and respect to us all who choose to do the hard things and live an easy life!

Now if you'll excuse me, time to start hustling on my animated video!

Peace,
Diego

Hey Diego,

Very cool to see another Taiwanese on the forum! I'm 21 and my dad's Taiwanese, but I'm born and raised in Sydney :)

Loved visiting Taiwan with my friends last year - great food (loved grilled chicken a$$ lol) and a very friendly environment.

Best of luck in your journey,
Alfred

Hey Alfred,

Wow that’s awesome! Perhaps we can do a meetup sometime in the future.

Taiwanese chow is certainly world-class, my favorite other two being oyster omelette & beef noodle soup.

Hey! A doctor also from an Asian country here.

Welcome! :D
I, too, have contemplated starting a YouTube channel, just not completely sure I want to put myself 'out there' like that yet.
Please post a link to yours after you upload the video .

I share your sentiment about not wanting to slog away 5/7 in some hospital or clinic and am working to break away from that.
Hopefully my upcoming job will be my last one.
We'll see.

Thanks man! I'll indeed send you my vid when I finish it firsthand.

Also, it's great to meet someone like you in similar shoes man. My parents & everyone have been haranguing me about how freaking AWESOME it is to become a doctor. But deep down, I just felt an itch that something is way off & got woke upon reading TMF .

Some upperclassmen already working in the hospital have also told me how much they miss to be broke college students f*cking around, as opposed to now dredging long hours every day without much time or energy to spend that "AWESOME income".

Good luck to your exit outta the Slowlane & let's keep each other posted! ;)

For everyone else out there, send me a message if you're interested in watching my first cringy (lol) video since I don't wanna spam. Should be out in less than a week. And I gotta say, I've had a lot of fun making it!!!

Finally getting my toes wet in the Fastlane! Time to commit & get knee-deep!:bicep:
