Background and Problem:

I travel around a lot. In the bigger cities you see buskers, street performers, and the like. Occasionally, I come across someone I'd like to tip, but I tend to not keep cash on me.
I think to myself, I'm sure there's other people who occasionally fall into situation. I personally don't like to keep cash on me unless it's absolutely necessary (but that's beside the point).

Solution:
The solution lies with the street performer. What if I created an website/ app with a membership feature. Sign up and you get a QR code to print out. Tippers scan the QR code and pay the street performer a 1$, 5$ or custom amount through Square or Paypal or some type of payment feature. There would be additional features of convenience with a monthly paid membership.

Thoughts???

Yea, I guess it's similar in concept to those, but perhaps everything would be more streamlined.

Do a bit more research on that app, see if it's freeware, shareware or source code and make an improvement or two. The hard work has been done, for you, now it just needs a fine tune. So, work those magic fingers of yours..

I feel like the problem is the performer and the tipper need to be onboard with this app , whats the incentive for the passerby?

Well I know PayPal would certainly love to be in the loop for getting paid.

I think the whole concept of street performing is for cold cash right now this second.
Or at least one of those Gold Coins from John Wick.:)

Simple? Convenient? LOL.

I copied your post because you're right. Cold hard cash right this second. It couldn't be simpler!

Leave it to a millennial to make an app for every damn thing. LOL (sarcasm)

This idea/business was on shark tank and got a deal from Mark Cuban: BRAVO Tip or Pay - As Seen on ABC’s "Shark Tank"

Clearly it solves a need but can you outperform them?

Hey thanks for that good to know!

I am just thinking about the reality of approaching a street performer ...waiting until the end...starting a conversation about an app if they have or heard of it when they really just want to hear Kaching!
Plus what if it's a Mime? No conversation.

The few street performers I've approached have liked the idea...

Hey you never know. Maybe that type of tipper would be more generous!

Wonder if the tax man would want to step in.

Good Question,
For the performer.... getting paid more than "cold hard cash." While there will always be the need for physical cash, the world is going digital. It may be a few extra bucks but at the end of the day, but opportunity to get paid even more, is the incentive... There will be other features within the membership, such as the opportunity to connect with other street performers who also use the app for collaboration or what not.

As for the tipper... You don't have to whip out a credit card to scan a chip or something... you don't even need to get close if your not comfortable. if the sign is big enough, it'll be as easy to scan as it is to record the performer.

Maybe I could compete...

I definitely don't have the skills, but my concept is more simpler.

I don't have a device I can download there app too see exactly how it works, but it seems that both parties need the app- one who sends the money and the other who receives...

For my concept, only the performer needs it. He then prints out a Sign with a QR code... People who want to tip scan the QR code and boom paid... Only the tipper would need a QR scanner but most smart phones have those already I think.

I think my concept is more competitive because its simple... The users will have more complicated features to use for self promotion and whatnot, but its focused on getting them paid as easy as possible, with little to no inconvenience to the tipper...

Neither of them need another app. Just do a QR code to paypal like below.

(Please don't send me money, and trigger AML issues)

Set it up print it out and hand to each street performers.

Most smartphones have QR scanners so easy to send. Set up businesses cards with it on for them to hand out. Or have a big flyer/sign with it on.

Of course you could always offer to paypal to their email.

Interesting,

Perhaps the app is only a streamline way to set up a weather proof sign with their customized QR code.... Perhaps also add a networking and review feature that links to their personal social media accounts...

Maybe. But who wants to do that? I could see you might get a bit of cash. setting up the waterproof sign. Adding in link for people to donate and taking a cut when forwading it to the performer. That's no app though.

Reminds me of the guy with the idea to set up a system for homeless. So you would know they were spending on food/accommodation etc. Whilst the homeless could do odd jobs through the app.

I was thinking of a app/ websight combo.... Initially a membership website, I get some business cards with the info on in and pass it out to a few buskers to test it out. Maybe a QR code on the business card to send them directly to the website. The website would have the feature to design the sign with the QR code so they could print it out... then an option to connect via social media and other members of the sight.
