Who knows how to build a home with concrete?

Who can build something like this? How is it done? Any experience? I’ve got like 500 questions when I see a home like this. I’d pay good money just to watch how homes like this are built.

So here’s my concern..

The wiring, plumbing and air ducts all have to be cast in the concrete?

Then how is it insulated?

I believe that is a Huff Haus from Germany done in the Bauhaus/brutalist style...

They are prefabricated at a factory then put together on site, the Germans have taken prefabrication to the next level, and it is slowly seeping over here (UK), not sure about the US.

Funnily enough, out of sheer coincidence I was researching architectural concrete just yesterday for a little side-project.

So yeah, if you want to find more companies who do this sort of thing, either look at prefabs, or google architectural concrete & precision concrete, and you should come up with something.

It's beautiful, however the practicalities have to be thought of. There is a similar house round the corner from me, and those big windows aren't really suited for an urban setting.

Basically unless you live in the middle of nowhere, or you're an exhibitionist you'll end up with the blinds drawn pretty much all the time.

This type of construction is called 'tilt-up wall" construction. Large warehouses are usually constructed using this method.

The walls are poured on the ground over another concrete slab floor where 'form oil' (petroleum based) is sprayed prior so that the new concrete doesn't stick to the existing slab floor. Then 'picking eyes' are placed in the just poured concrete so that when it cures, the wall can be tilted up using a crane.hooked up to the 'picking eyes'

Warehouses rarely use insulation unless it is sprayed on after erection. In the case of homes or insulated buildings, a slightly different procedure is utilized.
'Sandwich panel tilt-up walls' Hardboard insulation is placed between front and back faces of the concrete and then erected in place after curing.

Watch the vid and if you have any other questions, feel free to let me know.

Prefab home design companies usually can build something custom if I'm not mistaken.

Possibly but somewhat doubtful unless the walls and roof are 8' or less in width due to transport restrictions.

The roof alone looks to be well over 1 foot thick. 1 cubic foot of concrete is over 140 lbs., so unless the roof slabs are 8' wide or narrower, it would probably be poured either in place or poured on the ground and then lifted in placed by crane.

Concrete is a great medium for building and designing homes. I too, would enjoy creating my home out of concrete.

This home (72,000 sq feet) was built about 20 miles south of me in 2017

That’s a nice house- have you seen the OOD houses from Estonia?

ÖÖD - House where your ideas fit!

I always wanted to invest in these...
