Hello, new to the fastlane forum but here it goes..

I'm in the very early stages of building a website maintenance & support agency, to assist businesses with their existing websites. We would be able to take care of all website edits on various CMS's such as wordpress, magento, squarespace etc. This service would include all types of edits - content changes, new pages, product data uploads, image optimisation, and so forth.

We would provide 3 package options, each with a different set of hours available. The larger packages would be more aimed at businesses who would update their websites often, such as real estate agents, hotels, eCommerce etc.

I'm aware this is nothing new, website maintenance retainers are often offered once website builds are complete by most web agencies. However building a dedicated company for just maintenance services would allow me to provide a service which is more efficient than most agencies, who are busy focusing on actual website projects. We would be able to provide much faster turn around times, our processes would be more refined and effective.

The main issue we may come across, is taking websites on that are poorly built, causing us an absolute nightmare to work with. I have years of experience in development however some sites are just not workable. Not sure on the solution for this just yet.

That's all I can provide at this stage as it's early days, however I'd love feedback if possible.

Thank you, JB.

Here are some ideas, though I've got no clue how websites work.

Just qualify your ideal client up front, and don't take on anything you know you can't help.

Hi [name],

In order to see if we'd be a good fit, I need to see how your back end is set up. Sometimes websites are set up in such a way that you'd be better off using someone else's service to manage your website. If it looks like your website can benefit from what we do, I'll let you know and we can go from there.

Thanks,

jb9420

If you can't help, you still may be able to get a profit. Find a good website guy who does overhauls. Then work out a referral program where you get paid for sending him a lead. Or you can both just agree to send each other leads.

Thank you for the advice, it actually triggered an idea in my head to carry out an evaluation process beforehand, the maintenance specs/package offered would be tailored to the particular website following the evaluation.

Have you offered your services to any businesses yet?

What type of people need this service and where can you find them?

Not as of yet, I'm currently working on the website at the moment. Nearly there just need to get a promo video created.

I would be targeting businesses who would often need to update their website but don't tend to have an in-house developer such as hotels, restaurants, medical practises etc. Or any business which is no longer in touch with their previous developers who need regular assistance.

There are a few other companies out there which are doing this, however they are mainly focused on WordPress only, I have the knowledge to provide this service for a large range of CMS's, not just WordPress. Example - https://www.indiehackers.com/interview/wp-buffs-30eda898c9
