Wassup you guys ?!

So if you've been following my story (which i don't expect you have)

I got fired from a job I was eager to quit and decided that it was a sign to take my music/ entrepreneurship career serious *FORREAL THIS TIME*

And I've been doing pretty well , I've traveled out of state for the first time in my life ,
made music connections , made money from my music , and made great relationships and friendships along the way

Things haven't gone exactly as planned BUT it's definitely been going in my favor.

So whats stumping me is sales .

I've been making a decent amount of money from my online business

BUT the problem is that I'm the sales person and I'm kinda just blindly making sales. (Which means my product is valuable and there is a market for it .

But I have yet to

1. Define my sales sequence
2. Figure out how to detatch myself from the sales

The way I get sales just kinda seems random honestly but im sure there is a repeatable pattern in there somewhere .

And I was also thinking that maybe sales isn't the problem its traffic .

Right now I hit up people directly to pitch and of course with that I can only contact so many people in a day .

But when I run ads they don't convert

I've been on this hamster wheel for a minute . Unsure how to escape .

I've been reading books , listening to podcasts , and watching youtube videos to learn .

They help but obviously I'm still doing something wrong .

*This is alot of shit I know*

Anyone have any suggestions ?

Hey Joker, We'd need more information.

Things like what vertical are you in, where are you placing your ads and what type of ads are they? How much traffic are you currently getting and how much is converting. The more you can reveal without giving any sensitive info out the better the responses will be and so the more helpful.

I'm in the online beat/instrumental selling business I'm mainly doing IG ads

My last campaign did 11,226 impressions

0 website clicks 28 profile visits and 5 follows

Ah, personally I have found IG to suck when it comes to any form of action. However those stats are dire. I get a handful of profile visits a day but they don't amount to anything positive. Some can make it work. Getting engagement is everything. Obviously your campaign was not on point.

IG aside the most important thing to figure out is where your raving fans hang out. Yes they maybe on IG but if you cannot make them engage with you there in a financial way you will have to find them elsewhere with their wallets close to hand.

Finding them searching on Google for similar products of course is the bull-eye. However what about suitable Music Websites? Can you reach out to popular sites in your genre and pay for a direct ad there?

I Know nothing about your industry/ market, but I'd see what your competitors are doing;
  • Go owler.com get a list of your competitors and their estimated sales.
  • Then type your competitors URL into similarweb.com and see breakdown of where their traffic comes from.
I did a quick search for the online beats industry, found a site doing $2m, YouTube was one of their best traffic sources so maybe youtubes worth looking into? Further research what's working for your competitors see if you can do your own twist on it.

So what I've come to the conclusion from the research is that sales isn't my problem . It's traffic .

My competitors are doing anywhere from 5000-30k monthly visitors and I'm getting barely 200-300 haha . Wow .

Which makes sense considering the fact that I do get sales its just not through my website or on the scale I want . It's because nobody knows about my website , aka where all my products are lmao .

Jeez i've been focused on the wrong thing for about over a year .

Thank you guys ! That was breath of fresh air . Time to make some changes .

Progress :

I hired a sales person so I can stop being a bottle neck in my business
(We've finally putting together a sales strategy that shows promise)

With the free time I've been focusing more on improving the marketing channels im already on.

And currently seeing results from youtube . I got 1 sale from a video that only had 4k views and maybe 3-4 requests for my top tier pricing .

So im going to be really dialing in on Youtube

Thank you guys again for the advice !

More good news soon .

Update :

So I'm still making a bit of cash from my online store and learning along the way

Been doing more studying , implementing , and planning on better ways to market

I made $750+ Jan

And only $100+ last month

But I recently I had a idea to add a complementary product

So I found a product , talked to the supplier , and have my first sample coming to me soon

The reality :

I live with 3 other people and so far its been a struggle pay for my own food and pay the bills

I haven't had much left over money to spend on a "good time" haha

I'm investing most of the money working to build my brand

But I'm more excited and happy and fulfilled then I was when I worked a 9-5

Alot of emotional ups and downs , fear , uncertainty , and doubt

But I'm creating great relationships with customers and getting good reviews

So in my eyes it's all worth it
