DISCLAIMER: I couldn't find an exact thread on this very idea, so opted to start a new thread.

Every day I'm exposed to awful sales copy, copywriting and ads. I do feel the urge to really educate so many people the principles behind what I consider to be good copy.

There are a lot of good threads on this topic here, but I haven'r seen so many on storytelling and the idea of creating a character, portraiting the customer as the "hero".

My question is this: Do you see a demand in the market for a copywriting video course with focus on storytelling and turning the customer into the hero?

I know there's Effortless Influence by Daniel Levis which has some really big names (actual A-list direct response copywriters) promoting him.

Then there's Michael Hauge - my main copywriting client told me to study his stuff when I was writing stories for him. My client writes amazing stories in his sales letters and has been coached by Michael

And, I think, Sean De Souza of psychotactics also has a story based infoproduct.

For me, the main problem with stories is digging them out. This can take lots of research or, unfortunately, change in clients. Not all clients have awesome stories. And in many cases you might have to stretch the truth to create an emotionally compelling story.

Do you have experience creating copy/content that turns the customer into a hero? Have you made a living (or at least, a lot of extra income) with that storytelling skill?

Yes I have made money on the side, but not a lot! I've had people complementing me for my so-called skills. Yet at the same time, I feel I have so much to tell those people who create lousy ads.

I understand that I need experience and testimonials. Obviously there are people out there way more talented than I, but for some odd reason I still feel "I have it".

Am I right in assuming you want to tell me to get more experience and referrals before even thinking of doing this?

I kind of don't care for the copy writing version of story telling in advertising. I do like story telling as speaking in Ted Talks. Perhaps used appropriately in fiction and fantasy. Although, it's just used a lot in copy writing to catch attention. I think personally, I've read too much, and when I see it in advertising, it's more of skipping over it and finding the key points, but I believe I've read too much. The average customer probably isn't an avid reader.

How Spilled Milk Became A Blessing In Disguise!

Hank never thought that the foul-smelling stain of spilled milk could be turned into the part of a freshly polished and shining floor.

Just like it was newly purchased.

Could you?

To find out more about this CRAZY story, let me tell you how OxiNoMilk saved Hank’s day and introduced him to a brand new way of cleaning his floors.

What did OxiNoMilk do that was so mind-blowing?

Well, it didn’t do much other than allowing Hank to effectively remove the milk stain, using its secret ingredient, the XYZ fancy name chemical.

In fact, it let Hank effecively remove those hard lumps of hair and dust that often accumulate on a milk stain, too.

Now how about that? I bet you’re impressed!

To order your FREE sample of the OxiNoMilk cleanser + an ebook on how to effectively remove milk stains from ANY surface in your home, click the link below.

Forgot to mention that I target B2B copywriting in a certain niche....don’t know which.

Do you think I’m onto something?

My only problem with this is it focuses on the features of the product such as cleaning the milkstains from the home which may or may not be true.

I say if you want to catch people's attention focus on emotions. How can the product affect their emotional lives?

For example, Disney World's tagline isn't "We include 6 major theme parks and 7 different resorts in Florida. Plus a major shopping center. and some aligators" The tagline for Disney World is "Let the memories begin"

That appeals to people because you create memories at Disney. Parents seeing their little ones taking pictures with their favorite Disney Princesses etc.

Apple had a campaign in the 90's-early 2000's called "Think Different". There was nothing about "Intel Pentium Processor + AMD Radeon Graphics +16gb RAM
It was ," Think Different" and they had posters of famous people such as Jimi Hendrix and Albert Einstein etc.

Telling customers these people were different from the norm. Our products are different from other computers.

Storytelling is about emotions. Why are Pixar movies great? We connect with Mr. Incredible because he's a family man going through a midlife crisis. We connect with Woody from Toy Story because he feels threated/challenged by Buzz Lightyear. We connect with Marlin because he loses his son and spends the entire movie to getting him back.
