Fastlaners, I am very excited to be posting in the execution category instead of the mindset category for once (it seems the mindset was a required shift before execution could happen).

Because of the steady investments of efforts I've made to developing my writing and marketing skills, a CEO contact of mine has enlisted me to prepare a lengthy marketing document for their services that will be presented at an upcoming conference by sales team to prospective customers. This is the first time I've negotiated a business transaction without suckling on the corporate teet.

The income from this transaction is negligible (a few hundred dollars), but I am most happy that someone recognized my ability to create value on my own. My only hope is that they aren't doing this as charity, and that they genuinely believe enough in the quality of my work that it seems like a worthy investment.

This being said, it certainly isn't CENTS. I remember reading elsewhere on the forum recently that "You can't expect to merge in the fastlane in a lambo if you're currently puttering along in a toyota with a rusted tailpipe." ... So I guess this is my getting a 2018 Toyota haha. I don't know how I will build momentum with this engagement, unless I'm able to get referrals. However, it was a spark I needed to believe in myself. I hope others will soon get their sparks.

- Cheers

Good stuff if this is your first foray into getting paid for something you create.

It is unlikely a CEO, or anyone really, would ask you to do something out of charity; so remove that thought and throw it in the wastepaper basket.

S/he will have some sort of expectation in their head and you will either meet it or not. I'm sure you will exceed it.

And then you have your toe in the door for more work or potential access to their network if they know you deliver on time, do so without a fuss and importantly do a good job.

What I have learnt very quickly from this Forum is that you would then ask something like 'Do you have any other problems I can help you with?'

Good job.
Now, start looking for a turbo kit.

That's a good point, they don't have time to invest in things that don't add value.

I appreciate the insight of asking about other problems, perhaps it could be the start of an ongoing working relationship.

Transaction complete:

- 10 hours total work
- 9 pages written
- 2 revision cycles to accommodate feedback
- $350.00 collected

My effective rate was $35/Hr. Not bad for a noob. It was an amazing feeling seeing that $350.00 come in. I had to laugh, because I expected my first entrepreneurial success to be... more. But it’s something. I solved a problem she couldn’t find anyone else to solve - that’s what matters. Now to find more problems!
