looking into a product thats the same, saw they were on kickstarter and had over half a mill pledged, i would say because i am a total novice in this game, my execution is simply weak... give someone my product that has experience like lori grenier or mark cuban and i think it blows up...

they say execution is king right? ^_-

looking into a niche, see a few people clearing near 6 figures on amazon, was an idea i had in my head. earlier today i went to the store to see pricing of a few items and am thinking of pulling the trigger and getting some inventory and building a brand around it. then in the future creating my own products. have a big vision for this particular thing, but not sure if its delusional.. time will tell

You have selected a bad product. Your copy is off and or your targeting is off.

From 170 impressions you only have 5 engagements. If all those things were on point then you'd have at least double the engagement. Cost per engagement needs to go down to around $0.30 from the $1 it is at currently.

Send me a PM if you want me to take a quick look and give you tips on how you can improve the campaign.

Do u think spending to build a brand whilst taking a small loss would be a good long term strategy?

It's hard to tell exactly what you're doing. You found a product, put up some facebook ads, and wait? Do you have a website? Are you dropshipping? Where are you getting the product?

You can't really just throw up facebook ads and become an overnight millionaire. It's going to take a lot more work than that, starting with the value you're offering the customer. Maybe you do that in the form of lowest price, or maybe you make improvements to an existing product, etc. You're not providing a lot of details in this thread for anyone to offer advice on.

I don't need to know what your product is, but could you fill us in a bit more with what it is that you're trying to do?

right now im testing the waters, i found an item that sparked a bit of interest and decided to buy it at a discount off the shelf. after i put up an ad on kijji (free) Craigslist (free) and facebook (paid ads for $7 over a week) aswell as posting in the facebook marketplace.

wanted to see if i could actually make a sale online, and purchase more inventory then rinse & repeat.

about product, ill say that is a solar energy backpack, me and my friend were at the beach and i thought about how the majority of people on the beach are complete zombies and staring at theyre phone. constantly see this around EVERYWHERE, on the street, in a restaurant..you name it EVERYONE is on theyre phone. saw a market i could potentially join.

dont have a website or dropship. as i have my own product a website will definitely be required & youtube.

for the near future i have the idea of building a brand in the pet industry (toys, beds + general pet stuff) its certainly a very big industry & as MJ says we only need to capture a small % of the market share. have an idea for this market id like to give a go.

second thing im not sure if its delusional but theres a small market share in vancouver i potentially see. do have the ability to test the market as ive recently learned from lori greniers book in starting a kick starter or just polling people on forums/street etc. *recommended read*

sorry about the confusion! thanks for the reply!

I just want to jump in for a second. I've been following your thread to see if you actually make a sale.
Are you saying you bought an item off the shelf (presumably on sale), and then tried to sell it for more than retail on websites where people routinely go to buy items for pennies on the dollar?

yes original price of the product was $80, i got it on sale for $30 and listed it for $60. ive been comparing other bags that do not even have a solar charging panel and u can pay anywhere from $25-$60+ on average. ''high end'' bags go for $150+. so in my thoughts $60 for a bag that charges your phone seems ok.

what are your thoughts?

So if people wanted this bag, why wouldn't they have just bought it at the $30 sale price you did, instead of paying you twice as much for it?

plan of action now is to build a pet brand, have some products id like to create and share in the marketplace.

another idea ill need to do some homework on legal issues/creating the product.

focus just on those two, in the meantime i am a slave. full time doing construction work, save & invest $ into ''business'' cant even call it that..but lets stick with that eh?

I think you need to test like 1-5 different products every day with FB ads for a week or two to find 1 or 2 that can make bank for you. I don't think this product you are promoting right now is "the one".

As for building a brand - not sure what you mean by that. Unless you are a seasoned brand builder it would seem kinda a waste of time. Just find a need and fill it, or catch wind of a trend and ride it.

I'd recommend you immerse yourself into the e-commerce world, speak with other e-commerce marketers, read their tips, pay attention to the most popular posts/tutorials etc.

Do those types of backpacks sell on eBay? Are your facebook ads targetted specifically at people in the Vancouver area? Did you try facebook marketplace?

If you're doing retail arbitrage (buy low, sell high) to test the waters and gain some experience selling things, you might consider trying to broaden your potential audience by offering the product on websites with more global reach (eBay, Amazon, etc.). Just a thought.

A solar backpack sounds like a pretty niche product. Not every person who buys a backpack would be in the market for a solar backpack. Even people in the market for a solar backpack might not want yours for one reason or another. By limiting yourself to local ads (craigslist, etc.), you're limiting the potential number of buyers quite significantly.

currently on fb marketplace had a few hundred views and no interest, had 5 people show interest then disappear , perhaps they found a cheaper option.

the ads are targeting vancouver central and about a 30km radius or so, burnaby, west/north van, new west surrey.

agree on the amazon thing, need to figure out the credit card situation (dont have one)

the backpacks have been selling but dont seem to be hugely popular

heres a different backpack

got a new fb page going (pet brand)

my focus for the next few weeks will be building up a following by putting up pics, memes and the works, getting paid/organic traffic & selling items + an ''invention'' i have had in my little head for some time.

the aim is not so much to earn money, but to have a brand

just like this forum that MJ has created it is a brand, our messiah could come out with a product line tomorrow and id bet he could close tons of sales with ease, imagine a product line of coffee cups that say #fastlaner or something simple. purchase orders would be flying in guaranteed * ill accept a 1% royalty for the idea *

that is my approach, to build a following and soft sell

see some fun products on alibaba, a bit sketched out about buying stuff from china.. the idea of sending money online seems silly but ill figure it out

can buy a product for literally dimes and retail for around $5-$10, seems like a fair price.

still looking around but just wanted to share

put up a 25 buckaroos on fb boosting a post, will engage the market and build a brand name.

after i will soft sell with a bigger audience

.5% sales on 10k followers for example is 50 customers

i believe on that small amount * in theory * could be a 3-4 figure business right there

within a minute of posting i already have engagements, now the key is to have the proper sales strategy

dreading monday morning..

i believe a large part of building a brand is connecting with other brands or organizations

(mcdonalds/coke)

have a good vision of where ''my company'' *chuckle* can go, of course it will take time to build although its a very large process. within xxx amount of time i think i can establish myself as a player in the market and have my cake & eat it to (throw some pie in there to) cheers

thanks for your interest, for now id like to keep everything private. basically my theme is focused around pets (large market)
and engaging my audience with pictures of dogs, cats, etc & recently filmed a few short clips at a local animal shelter. interacted myself personally with animals so i thought it was pretty cool.
