I just want to make a quick point, that my MacBook has saved me YEARS of headache and heartache compared to what a PC would’ve cost me.

If you care about the speed & efficiency in which you do business, you’ll buy Apple.

"Years" might be a bit hyperbolic, eh? I say use what you're most comfortable with. I grew up around lots of macs and PCs. Neither caused me more headache than the other. Linux, on the other hand...

Nah it deinfitely depends on the tool you're using. MacBook is such a reliable machine and lasts a long time. There are people I know who're still using their 2012 MacBook Pro with no issues!

When it comes to programming, video editing, heavy web development, photo editing, music editing, speed, portability, MacBook handles these tasks extremely well.

I'm not saying that PC is useless but with PC, depending on what brand, seems to always crash and burn. In a world of entrepreneurship, using the best tool is important.

I've saved years not having to learn a new operating system... so.... there :p

Seriously though - as a fluent and highly proficient PC user, I can't stand Apple products. They seem overly simple and frustrating to make work with how I normally expect things to work. They seem like they would be great for people who need go from "nothing" to "something" or have very little tech proficiency and just don't want to "deal with that" but I see zero reason to switch over and re-learn a new system as an existing PC user.

For someone like me, I would actually lose time making the switch. Even assuming I gain 100% proficiency with a Mac, I have a very, very hard time believing I would save any time over how I currently do things on a PC.

I have no issues with people loving Apple but I've yet to hear a good argument for why making the switch makes any sense at all for someone who is skilled on using a PC.

I also love Apple products...

...because lots of people repair instead of replace them due to high cost, and I can usually mark the replacement parts up 200%-400%

Plus, Apple has horrendous customer service and warranty service issues, which drives sales to third parties like me.

Also, Apple products actually have a rather high failure rate, so that helps. Their branding wouldn't have you believe that though lol.

I Love Apple.

There's also a lot of money to be made in the grey market for Apple products since they control the market so tightly to artificially inflate prices by creating fake shortages.

Lots of reasons to love Apple.

Lots of reasons to love Apple.

Especially their branding. People are fanatical about Apple products. Lot's of them even refer to their Apple product as their "baby"

Properly service a fanatical fan base like that and wow,...the word of mouth referral rate is INSANE. Was quite the eye opener for me.

Lot's of control issues though.

They are also able to get good employees for low wages because they hire the fanatics. Brand loyalty is the post-modern religion.

Well... if you want to use the fancy car vs minivan analogy:

Minivans:

- Cost less
- They are more versatile
- More people are familiar with them, making maintenance easier, quicker, and cheaper
- The insides can be configured in different ways according to your needs

Fancy cars:

- Cost more
- Look nicer
- More expensive to repair
- Most people have no idea what you're talking about when you start talking about them

I'd say your sports car goes faster but frankly that doesn't translate to a pc-mac advantage since PC's are as fast as you design them to be.

:)

I'm gnna stir some dust up now..

I've been an apple fanboy for tsome time but ever since Window Surface pro 3 and 4 came out and improved OS with windows 10... I've been really liking the PC set up more and more...

Even thinking about building a pc for my home office instead of a Mac.. honestly ever since steve jobs died I haven't seen anything to keep me in the apple boat.

Sorry to derail the silliness but I think I'm going to provide actual advice now. Sorry :(

I actually did just upgrade my home office PC recently.

It boots up in seconds and everything I could possibly want opens up or loads basically immediately thanks to the solid state drive (SSD) I built it with.

If you are building or buying a new PC - you want a solid state drive for your programs and OS to reside on. A normal hard drive is fine for storage / media but you want all the actual software you own to be on that SSD.

"Back in the day", RAM and processor speed were the bottlenecks. If you added more RAM and a better processor your computer went faster. The hard drive was waiting on processor speed to load things up. These days, processing speed and RAM have far outpaced mechanic harddrive speeds. They now wait on the hard drive to access information.

If you put a solid state hard drive (no moving parts), you eliminate that bottleneck. It's the difference between a computer that takes 4-5 minutes to turn on and one that turns on in less than 10 seconds. It's the difference between waiting 30 seconds for photoshop to load up and it loading up in 3 seconds.

If you go PC. Get a SSD. I literally will never use a computer without one again.

This pretty much reflects my experience. Built mine in 2012 and it boots in seconds, runs quick as I'd ever want, and has never had viruses/random crashes. So yeah, in a few more years I'll probably go with another PC.

That said, if I ever wanted to do video or image editing from a hotel room, I'd probably get a mac.

lol Macs already have built in SSD. Macs are the go to for me because you take out the box and you're ready to work. No time wasted.

With PC, you have to download, install, update, downgrade, remove, etc etc just to get the thing to turn on

But yeah, jokes aside SSD in general is a must.

1000x this for sure... I already have a planned build laid out.. I plan on having 2 Harddrives and the SSD being my main and an large HDD for storage of larger files that i dont always use..

Obviously, I didn't mean for things to get so one-sided. I also own both PC and Mac; I guess we're talking about the software when it comes down to it.

While I do prefer the functionality of Windows, in my experience it has always had issues with viruses, etc.

Whereas Macs tend to run the same throughout their lifespan.

Also, I'm sorry Yoda. :(

And just to throw one more wrench into the blender, because I feel it's a totally harmless discusssion to have, here's a quote from TMF, "When I think of PC, I think of blue screens, illegal operations, and “you must reboot your computer 17 times before this update takes effect.”"

I always recommend Apple products highly, use them daily and have for years. I haven't been without at least one box running OSX for over a decade.

The reality is that for more technical people, and those in need of high-horsepower hardware, PCs smoke Apple products across the board. I use an MBP as my daily work computer, but will likely move away next upgrade. I'd go (and get all my clients) Surfaces and Surface Books with docks, nearly exclusively, and some Lenovos. For more basic users there are perfectly acceptable business class alternatives. The key is in the buy.

My MBP is never on outside of my office save for on onsite at clients and traveling. My home office PC used for video editing and rendering, encoding etc, would melt any Apple computer available. (And forget about games)

Even when Mac Pros were new ('13, lol), a properly built PC will embarrass them. Buying built PCs is getting more competitive now, as well. Dollar for dollar, PCs are just stronger machines. There are countless benchmarks to prove it.

If your computer (OS agnostic) is riddled with viruses or doesn't run strong, it's either user error or cheaply built/bought. It doesn't matter who makes it.

So the MAC vs PC debate still goes won't die. :arghh:

Personally I like the freedom to build a PC as I wish plus you get more bang for your buck avoiding the purchase of a Mac. My PC will eat any Mac for breakfast and certainly cost a lot less. However as Apple gave up building their own processors some time ago and rely on Intel it is easy enough to run a Mac OS on your Windows PC is you so wish. I'm very happy with Windows 10 though. Oh and I'm not anti Apple, I've had iphones since the iPhone3. Hell, my house is full of Apple products from laptops to watches.

The important thing is a computer is a tool, if it is earning you a living or making your life easier then what difference does it make?

If you care about the speed & efficiency in which you do business, you’ll buy Apple.

I don't understand why you'd just start a thread about this topic and then make a statement like that. It just ruins your credibility.

If I was to make a post that said if you care about making money then you would go with Shopify, I would sound like a fanboy be less credible once I answered any questions about Shopify.

Btw I use a PC. I usually buy a new laptop every two years for about $400. And I buy a new desktop every two years for about $600. On my desktop I've always been able to get a fast gaming desktop in that price range and my laptop is bare bones and pretty slow but I only use it when I travel.

My point is I can get three laptops for the price of one MacBook. I can go six years for the same price as getting a MacBook now, but I bet my laptop in 4 years will be faster than the MacBook I buy today.

Personally, I have and do use both. Truth is that Macs are more sleek and make me feel like a proper entrepreneur, but what they don't do is run half of the custom bots / scrapers without needing a whole lot of additional work with Virtual Machines etc.

They also stop working when you throw your coffee over them. My PC laptop has had about 12 gallons over it and still works.

Thought I'd chime in to say I am one of those people, still using a 2012 mac air 11 and it runs super well, I don't demand much of it though, and have replaced its battery once, so its not perfect, though definitely better than what I was using before!
