Yes but you're looking at him like he's a rational and sane person. This kid had no sense of perspective or reality. Did you read the posts on the bodybuilding forums? Completely incapable of understanding why a girl would be attracted to someone driving a Honda Civic, and not wearing a $300 Prada sweater. As if BMWs and Italian clothing are measures of wealth.
Plus, he probably didn't feel wealthy himself. Sure, he had presents from daddy, but he himself didn't have the money for them. That BMW wasn't earned by him working 60 hours a week while going to college. In a way this isn't surprising at all, he lives his whole life being given things that successful people have; cars, fancy clothing, etc. Then he assumes that the reason many successful people have attractive woman is their money. Sure, some woman are gold diggers, but many just like to see a successful man who knows what he wants.
But in his mind they are "bullying" him by not throwing themselves at him because he has everything else. Though, ironically, his displays of wealth aren't that unheard of on a college campus. I've seen plenty of college kids without jobs that drive a new Corvette, BMW, Lexus, etc. It's just not that uncommon.
