Close your eyes and imagine you own a startup clothing line called FEAST Or Famine.. there's two directions of marketing thoughts; which would you pick and why?
Both are inbound marketing focused meaning build helpful stuff and let people come to you. In order to get eyeballs on your shirts, awareness, and a following; you create a unique, catchy (highly probably it will get many shares on social media) product that directly solves a problem in your niche target market. In addition; you plan to build some type of website that will be real useful for your target market. With that said; both the product and website will have "by FEAST Or Famine" tag lines and also incorporated smoothly throughout each.
If you eventually build a following or community of supporters for your unique product and/or website..
Would you:
1. Try to sell mainly Brand based designs. This meaning shirts that mostly has your main logo or wordmark logo. This way; when people see those wearing it, it creates the most brand awareness and visibility. Do you take advantage that your community/following will support you enough to flat out wear an unknown brand?
- or -
2. Create trendier designs that subtly have your wordmark and/or main logo incorporated in it? These designs will definitely sell more because well.. they just look better and more people would wear these than having some unknown brand on them. But; these designs really don't build any brand recognition or visibility.
The end goal is to eventually build a brand, and not just sell on the latest wave of trends. Would love to hear your thoughts...
