I know we have some homeschoolers here, and as one who will be starting this fall, I still found this very funny.

You are going to start homeschooling, huh? May I ask why you decided to go that route?

Some of these thoughts I think I post here somewhere before, but here goes:

High School and early college, I was very anti homeschool. Up to that point in my life every homeschooler I had met could be picked out of a crowd after only 10 seconds. Their social skils were in the crapper so to speak. Then sophomore year in college I met a girl who was homeschooled and I had no idea. She was a contestant for Miss PA, and was very well rounded socially. Don't read too much into the fact that it was a female, I was already engaged at this point.

This caused me to do some deep thinking on homeschooling. Previously I was torn between two objectives, a higher quality education vs a socially adept child. Now I was presented with the best of both worlds, but how could it be. I started looking into the reason people homeschool.

In my circle of very conservative central PA, people tended to homeschool to protect their children from the evils of the world. This deliberate act of protectionism is what typically lead to the lack of social skills.

So with the goal of higher quality education, I decided that I could deliberately socialize my children to give them the skills they need. (bear in mind these conclusions were all premarriage and prekids).

Well 10 years later, married, 4 kids and the first is about to start kindergarten, we are about to embark. My wife is still very hesitant, but willing. Fortunately in the last year we started attending a church whith a good core group of homeschoolers which she can rely on for support.

I lean more towards unschool, but my wife is more structured. She she is walking with me on the homeschool decision, I can walk with her on this one. Right now she is feeling a bit overwhelmed, but that is what husband is here for :)

Long answer I know, but I hope that answers your question.

at one point it was 4 under 4. still have not figured out the cause. My wife blames me, but I have no clue what she is talking about.:smx3: Truthfully, 50% of the kids we adopted, so the older two are 6 months apart, and the younger two are 8 years apart, and the middle two are 2 years apart. Oh, and yes my wife is nearly clinically insane, though life does get easier for her each passing month. Good thing she has a great husband who spends all his time on the forums.:smxE:

The people that did the video borrowed about 1/2 the kids from friends. I think only 4 are actually theirs.
