For you folks with web sites, what percentage of advertising posted on your site pays your bills or puts money in your pocket as opposed to the amount you lay out for your own advertising? Does anyone want to share their adsense experiences?

Pitboss, if you use a site builder, such as what I used at www.cmbilt.com, you can build your own website with no cost but buying the domain name and hosting account. I have another website being built that is costing some money because it is more detailed and interactive. Google adsense allows you to make money on the number of people that click on their adds. Once enough people click on their adds through your site, then Google mails you checks each month($100 min.). Hope this helps

ALWAYS build the site yourself when possible. If that's not possible, have a struggling designer friend do it. Tell them you can't pay them, but that they can put a big link at the bottom with "Site Design by So-and-So." This keeps your upfront costs at a minimum so that your advertising return can be less to break even.

Acctually, the whole fastlane premise is hire out what you cant do to save what is more valueble than money, TIME. chances are likly that if someone puts together a free site for you is is not going to be very high end, thus deafeating the purpose anyway. The best things todo is to hire it out, make a solid site that people enjoy and will return to over and over.:jiggy:

...hire out what you cant do to save what is more valuable than money, TIME.

I agree with this concept for sure, and everyone should know the value of his/her free-time. See the Time Value Calculator for that. Luckily I've been able to put together very inexpensive (money and time) sites that suit my business's current needs.

...chances are likely that if someone puts together a free site for you is is not going to be very high end, thus defeating the purpose anyway.

I'm just thinking out of the box here. Some of the best artwork in my home was free from art students who didn't yet realize the value of their talent. Find a talented friend who hasn't made it big yet. Check the local university campus.
