Over the years, I have done lots of interesting things for the purpose of checking them off the list. Raced motorcycles, won a taekwondo national championship, got a pilots license, skydiving, etc. I am always doing things to push myself both mentally and physically to new heights as I enjoy the experiences.

Last week I attended my annual entrepreneurship conference in NYC. I have been part of this group of 6 years now, 3 strictly as attendee, 3 now as organizer. This group is constantly challenging each other to do new things. I have been horseback riding in Siberia in February with some of these guys. One group climbed Mt Kilamanjaro last year.

And this fall, the group has laid down the challenge to compete in a half Ironman event. In case you don't know what that is, its a 1.2mile swim, 13 mile run, and a 56 mile bike ride. And I committed to participate.

I haven't run or cycled since my early 20s. I haven't really swam since high school. BTW, I am 35 now. Not that I'm out of shape, but I'm nowhere near that kind of shape. But I committed to do it. And I started training this week. Today I ran 5 miles, swam 500m, and walked another 2.5 miles. It didn't kill me, but it hurts.

The question I pose to you is, what do you do to push your limits? How do you challenge yourself? How do you raise the bar? (and as a side note, if anyone does Ironman's, any training tips would be great too...)
