Back then, $2 million was more like $20 million.
In reflection, I only remember ONE thing from that book, and it was this:
Pay no attention to a stock's daily moves as it is all random, unimportant noise.
Daily stock price fluctuations reflect emotions and knee-jerk reactions, and those are horrible inputs for good decision-making.
Long-term stock prices reflect value.
As I like to say, TIME always reveals the truth.
If you’re 22 years old and claim that ice cream and bacon are the keys to longevity, you’re entitled to that opinion. But time will expose the truth, and that heart attack you'll suffer 20 years later will prove you’re a bloviating moron.
I bring this up because a guy on the forum recently posted this:
Stop reading the daily freaking news.
I couldn’t agree more. Why?
Because news is designed to spike emotions and knee-jerk reactions… two things adverse to good, solid decision-making.
This gentleman invested in CrowdStrike back when the stock price plummeted because of the internet outage. Emotions were high. Bad stock decisions were even higher.
People sold the stock (the arrow) because of the red meat of the news, news that wouldn’t matter 2 weeks later.

As you can see, since then, the stock has risen impressively. I’m guessing he’s made a pretty good fortune.
Key takeaways: Emotions are horrible prefaces to any decision, especially when it comes to stock prices.
Stop making financial decisions based on the day’s red meat.
Oh, you hate Elon Musk and want to throw shade on SpaceX? That’s emotion speaking.
Do you envision data centers in orbit, operating at 90% greater efficiency than land-based data centers? That’s rational speculation speaking, perhaps worthy of your investment, or not.
The point is, good investment decisions are made when you act like a rational adult, not a petulant, whiny toddler.
High emotions equate to a high chance of a poor decision.
In Choose Hard, Live Easy, Stop Drop and Roll is a decision tactic you can summon to minimize, or better, eliminate emotional decision-making.
It works like this: When you’re feeling the heat of emotion, STOP, DROP, and ROLL. (Yep, the old fire drill thingy!)
Stop and let the emotions drop, then roll with the decision that doesn’t have the gun pointed at your face. Your portfolio, and your life will thank you.

This Old Book Held a Simple Secret to Investment Profits and Good Decisions
Many years ago, I read an old book originally published in 1960 called “How I made $2M in the stock market” by N. Darvas.Back then, $2 million was more like $20 million.
In reflection, I only remember ONE thing from that book, and it was this:
Pay no attention to a stock's daily moves as it is all random, unimportant noise.
Daily stock price fluctuations reflect emotions and knee-jerk reactions, and those are horrible inputs for good decision-making.

It works like this: When you’re feeling the heat of emotion, STOP, DROP, and ROLL. (Yep, the old fire drill thingy!)
- STOP: Slam the brakes. Wait hours, a day, or more before you do something dumb.
- DROP: Let the emotional firestorm fade into logic and cool-headed thinking. Revisit the decision.
- ROLL: Move forward with a choice that’s measured, not manic.
Stop and let the emotions drop, then roll with the decision that doesn’t have the gun pointed at your face. Your portfolio, and your life will thank you.
