Shit happens. I 100% agree with that, and it sucks. I could go outside, see a shiny object on the ground and go to look closer at it and BOOM, have a literal helicopter land on my head (a guy actually had a helicopter land on him in Vancouver while out jogging a few years back, I don't think situational awareness helps out with this).
Having said that, I still think it is better almost every single time to manage your own resources. How much do people pay into government funded retirement programs that are mandatory? Government health care? Government anything? Those same resources, even poorly managed, will almost always go further under private interest. There is zero incentive for doing anything properly when the money comes to you no matter what, and with no oversight. Sadly that is just the way it is. I would love more than anything to have a beneficial government who is here to help out and make things better, but history has proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that this is the case.
Do a bad job? They say it is because they need more resources, so they take more or print more. Do a good job? They say it is because they are so effective so therefore need more, or print more. Take too long? It is because we need more resources, so we take more or print more. No consequences for poor performance (other than getting more resources of being able to create more at the expense of everyone else). It is infuriating.
Bad things happen to good people. Even more bad things happen to bad people. Be a good person, lower your odds for bad shit happening, because it is going to happen anyways.
