I am ready to revolt against the TSA security theater. My kids and wife flew to Mexico yesterday and I bought them all Apple sauce squeezies for the plane. My kids are 4 and 6. I guess my wife left the apple sauce in my sons carry on with his clothes and the goons flagged it and riffled through the entire thing and dumped 100% of the stuff into the dirty bins, even though the apple sauce pouches were on the top.

So they went through the entire 4 year old's bags, and dumped his underwear and clean clothes all over the nasty counter and bin to find something that someone with half a brain could have identified and found in 3 seconds based on the x-ray. And since they were a scandalous 120mL each they took them from my kids. My wife asked if the kids could eat them now and she was told if she wanted to do that she had to leave security and go back through it. Because somehow that would be safer than allowing a 4 and 6 year old to eat a squeezie of apple sauce. Or heaven forbid they take it on a plane!! Apple sauce OH NO!!!!

This is what happens when you hire goons who's only qualification is a pulse and the ability to take a 3 week course. You get lowest-denominator fools with authority complexes who think they are special by showing a 4 year old how tough and in charge they are. Gotta enforce those rules! Why? Because they are the rules! Whoever made these rules needs to be taken out back and beaten with a rubber hose. The only reason the TSA can pull the crap they do is because we let them. Security Theater. Who needs properly trained security when we can just pretend and make all the Karen's of the world feel safe.

Here is the official rules from the TSA:

"Formula, breast milk, toddler drinks and baby/toddler food (to include puree pouches) in quantities greater than 3.4 ounces or 100 milliliters are allowed in carry-on baggage and do not need to fit within a quart-sized bag. Formula, breast milk, toddler drinks and baby/toddler food (to include puree pouches) are considered medically necessary liquids. This also applies to breast milk and formula cooling accessories, such as ice packs, freezer packs and gel packs (regardless of presence of breast milk). Your child or infant does not need to be present or traveling with you to bring breast milk, formula and/or related supplies.

Inform the TSA officer at the beginning of the screening process that you are carrying formula, breast milk, toddler drinks and baby/toddler food (to include puree pouches) in excess of 3.4 ounces. Remove these items from your carry-on bag to be screened separately from your other belongings. TSA officers may need to test the liquids for explosives or concealed prohibited items."

While my kids are not technically toddlers (which is not defined on the TSA website from what I can see), a 4 year old eating a literal food puree pouch can't be considered a MF'n security threat.

To the TSA goon who thinks he is special and powerful for taking food away from a 4 and a 6 year old: I hope you feel special about the direction your life is taking.

On a side note, I am currently read "The rise and fall of the Third Reich". What is happening in modern society has a very frightening parallel to what has been occurring in 1930's Germany. I am only around 1934ish in the book, and it is already terrifying. This book needs to be required reading for the entire planet.

I am going to make an official complaint to the airport here. Yes I know it is only over three $1 apple puree pouches, but the principle remains. These goons need a complete overhaul. Common sense needs to come back. If people stopped taking this shit it would go away. Just like refuses to go through those stupid body scanner radiation machines. If everyone refused and said they needed a pat down, those machines would go away in a hurry as the entire airport would grind to a halt. Bring back real trained security who can spot a threat. Stop harassing frustrated citizens who are just trying to go places.

As a fellow passenger, I feel safer that security takes their job seriously even in fringe cases like this. That even in scenarios where the seemingly most innocent of society, a toddler and their apple sauce, security is upholding the same standards that apply to everyone else. There shouldn't be exceptions for anyone. With that said, I empathize with you on how they handled the situation, which was seemingly poorly, but also perhaps skewed by the frustration-tinted lenses that you were wearing at the time.

To extrapolate out of such a situation a comparison to Nazi Germany... well, I think we both know that is a bit extreme, and perhaps not the lesson to be had here.
