Hi,

just wanted to mention that low levels of dopamine can mean low motivation, ambition some people are actually born with low levels of dopamine, it's actually quite an interesting and complex subject.

I'd like to know also what is the point? Maybe that we need people just born a certain way? Like the quote "Be open minded to other peoples interests, our everyday lives are possible because of the labor of others." I think it means people doing what may seem mundane to someone else and that they must lack motivation but maybe it is what that person is meant to do and equally important loves to do is happy doing it. I would like to hear more Bry.

Hi there,

Actually Dopamine can often be reduced significantly if you're on anxiety medication or valium. I know when I was prescribed Seroxat and Valium my motivational levels dropped way way down.

I just this would be a good post to place, perhaps maybe not.

Are you leading up to posting links to your online pharmacy that just happens to provide those specific items? Perhaps it's a language barrier, you aren't making much sense.

What I think he or she meant is that dopamine levels are important when it comes to success in money and in other endevours as well.

Those people who succeed with ease are usually those people who have a good and healthy dose of dopamine in their body. Direct correlation? Yes, I think so.

This is relevant because it is a big part of being a successful human being.

ok, I'll bite....

How can I increase my levels of dopamine?

How do I know if the levels are too low/high?

how can I alter this so I have more motivation?

Well, you could drink a beer. Alcohol increases dopamine levels, at least temporarily. That's why, when you're out having drinks with friends, you come up with those great, ambitious ideas.

Too bad follow through and execution are not so good when you're drinking.

I actually think this is an excellent topic.

Recently, due to some health problems, I had to be on a very restricted diet: lots of juices, no carbs or meat.

Much to my surprise (I figured it would be an awful experience) not only did I experience having more energy, but I had a much more positive and motivated state of mind.

It was actually very enlightening and shocking to see how big of a difference in my mood and motivation resulted from changes in my diet.

Nope I don't have an online pharmacy, just thought it would be a good post.

Shouldn't of bothered.

The topic may be relevant and timely. The initial delivery was suspect. You just pitched out a random statement without any facts or other input. It was as if you were baiting someone to ask questions so you could promote your wares.

I have read your stuff on some of the other forums(watch forums) and you don't come off as random there. Why seem like it here? Just trying to find a groove and fit in?

It's all good! St. John's Wort was supposed to help with dopamine levels.. or reducing serotonin... but, I don't know. It didn't work on someone I know who was severly depressed all the time.

well, maybe it does work for those in the "normal" range? also, we are all different, so it may work for some and not for others.

What other things work?

I'd assume daylight also helps somehow (I do feel down, way down, during winter times).

You are probably right! He has a chemical deficiency in his brain and an over the counter fix won't work.

Daylight helps.. the energy of the sun helps. Music helps!!!!! That's the quickest way out of a funk! The right song at the right time can be empowering!

That's interesting, could you elaborate on your diet and its effect? How long did it take to notice a change, etc etc?

Hi there, I guess I placed the post as I had discussed a similar post on tz-uk.com a watch forum. I have been trying to sort problems with depression and sort my get up and go attitude. Dopamine is also linked to reward "Anyway, when one first learns about dopamine, you learn about a "reward" molecule, the one that makes you feel good. Over time, scientists have found that it's not just about reward with dopamine. Dopamine has a lot more to do with things we like to call salience and value. The salience of a cue is in part related to its strength, and it part related to what its connected with. Basically, a cue is high salience if it gives you a good reason to pay attention. It isn't attention itself, it's being connected to something worth paying attention to. This is connected to the item's value. After all, if it's something I don't value, the article isn't going to be very salient to me, it won't be worth paying attention to." It might've sounded suspect but it is an interesting topic, and so many people don't realise how the brain works, and what makes people so different one person achieving goals and being successful and someone else the exact opposite. I'm sure you've heard of Aspartame and phenylalanine, that's actually known as the love chemical. Basically you will have so much drive and energy BUT it doesn't last forever usually a fews days, and then the brain tolerates it. You're best speaking to your Doctor if you think you have low levels of motivation and see what they suggest. Regs Bry

People are motivated by pain. Pain of losing their house. Pain of failing at school. Pain of losing money. Pain of losing a job.

When things are good or comfortable then why do it. There is no pain.

It typically is harder to motivate yourself when there is no pain involved.

I think I read somewhere on here that MJ wants to finish the book but, he is comfortable.. yeah... he talked about pain motivating him when he was younger.. because he HAD to make money.

Find your painful place! Which sounds so negative.. doesn't it. but, I think you get what I'm talking about.

It may be a good idea to create a separate thread about the importance of health and fitness for the successful entrepeneur in this section, rather than limiting the discussion to the level of dopamine.

What do the successful fastlane entrepeneurs do to stay or become healthy and fit? What sports and how frequently, do they take vitamin/mineral supplements and which ones, etc?

I have something to add to this.

Since I was little, I've always had problems with getting things done. I'd get all excited about starting something but I'd get easily get bored getting through things.

This ended up effecting my performance in school. Around the 11th grade I was prescribed some medication to help me get shit done.

It worked.

I was puzzled as to why it was so much easier to blast through things while I was on the medication vs when I wasn't on it. My doctor told me that some people's brains produce a lot less dopamine, and since this medication worked so well on me, it meant that I had that issue too. Dopamine apparently is the hormone that gets you in a "happy" state. One way of naturally raising the output of dopamine is to work out. (temporarily at least).

I guess you can say I have ADD.

At one point I stopped taking the medication. I experienced hardly any motivation to do anything. I would stay in bed like 12-14 hours a day and accomplish hardly anything. I would have trouble feeling positive emotions, but had no problems at all feeling the negative ones. Lets just say it was a shitty time to be in.

I'm no doctor or anything, but that's just my experience and information I've gathered from someone whose supposed to know his stuff. I'm personally convinced that dopamine IS linked to motivation.
