As of today 2023, January 8th I finished reading UNSCRIPTED . I am creating this thread as an accountability tool and to mark my progress. My goal by the end of the year is to have made at least 1,000 euros through a business or side hustle, preferably game development or web development. I'm a student so the only opportunity to work on my business is on the weekends / school holidays. I am currently maybe 60%-70% done on my first game that I plan to sell on steam, but I'm still not sure of how that's going to go, especially on the legal side of things like copyright and having a corporate entity, but I plan to figure it out when the time comes. I've actually stopped production for like 3 months now because I was procrastinating, but I'm going to resume as soon as I'm done with a programming competition in the upcoming days, for which I am preparing, and I believe that it might not be getting me closer to my business, but the programming skills I learn from it will be beneficial.

BTW, here's a sneak peek of my game:

Might even become a youtuber :)

This game reminds me a lot of a flashgame I used to play about a decade ago. Is this inspired?

Good to post man. Welcome to the forum.

Mhmmm thought so, any chance you can add something onto it to make it better than the original?

And what are your goals for next week?

Does the goal of making $3 per day really motivate you? You won't achieve it if it doesn't. Think bigger

graphics wise maybe, adding more guns, and even later a shop and inventory system. I built a prototype shop and inventory but it didnt work and I had to scrap that idea for later. next week I should be finally more free to start working on it. Firstly id like to get the main game mechanics down before I touch graphics and menus and such. So I need to make the scoreboard look better, add a killing streak, explosive barrels, landmines.

You know its like contradictory advice everywhere like aim for millions but also divide that into smaller goals so I really dont know what I should aim for.

Set a realistic, but challenging goal. You know, making $1000 through your own business is just as hard as making $10000. Once you know how to make the $1000, you just repeat it 10 times, 20 times, 100 times and so on.

This is a load of old bollocks. You need to start somewhere, and no, $10,000 is not just as hard as $1,000. They are different. That difference is that you need to first get to $1,000 before getting to $10,000.

This is mixing up goals and aspirations.

Aspire for $10,000
Have a goal for $1,000.

To you it may not seem difficult, but this guy may have never made that amount of money from a business. Having a goal of $10,000 is likely unrealistic and unmotivating.

$10000 in a year from a business or sidehustle is unrealistic? He has 12 months to make that. That's like $800 per month. $25 per day. You can make it by designing $10 logos on fiverr or something. That might be a little challenging for a person who's never done that before but that's the goal. Why would you aim for 80 bucks per month?

New update: Haven't worked on the game at all recently, but I have started to learn HTML. With a friends help I set up my own website from scratch. What is especially awesome is the GitHub students pack that offers a bunch of free services for students like a free domain name and cloud services, courses and what not so If you're a student I recommend applying for it.

ml-e1610553826718.jpgNew update: Dropped the game development / web development idea 2 months ago.

I realised game development is a stupid business to get into and is more of a hobby. Instead, I got hooked on machine learning/data science since I've been always interested in AI and the idea of Neural Networks being able to solve human problems. I started by simply buying a udemy course. I could've found the info online but I was willing to invest some money into better, more thought out material. I've made myself a goal of achieving 10,000h of experience in the field throughout several years. My plan is to start freelancing once I have enough experience, then getting an ML job, saving up and starting my own Machine learning business or whatever. I genuinely enjoy this field although it still take some discipline to do it.

This summer I'm planning on grinding until I have at least 300 hours of experience, I try to study ML at least 5 hours every day and my progress is: 80/300h, I've already learned to build machine learning deep learning models and do some basic stuff although I'm still confused about when to start getting into freelancing.

Honestly, I almost forgot about this forum, but I'm interested in getting back into it.
