Do you ever say a word once, have it sound funny, so you say it again a few more times, then you question if it's actually a word, followed by questioning your own existence?
I do this too often
Say a word many times, think about it to the point where you feel it loses its meaning, question its existence, then question yours.
yep

Sounds like your main drain is clogged just after the kitchen sink.

Your kitchen sink drains to a main pipe and when that main pipe is clogged the water backs up and comes out your drain. Is that drain the lowest one in your apartment?

When water comes out that drain and it pools it finds the lowest point in your wall, goes through that and down onto your downstairs neighbor’s ceiling.
Thanks for helping @biophase. Not sure if that is the lowest one in the apartment, but it would make sense if it was. Sounds pretty spot on what you write. Still waiting for the plumber though. Southern Europe efficiency!

Some "soft" skills that you could find valuable :

  • Being able to focus

    • In a world full of distractions, focused high quality output is becoming rarer and more valuable.
    • I am reading Deep Work by Cal Newport and removing distractions as much as I can.
    • Daily meditation. Aiming for 30 minutes a day. This really helps.
    • Put your phone in a distant room when you are at home.

  • Being able to communicate and form connections with people.

    • Something I really need to work on.
    • The world is going all digital, but every human being still yearns connection with another human being.
    • Reading books out loud helps on communication and just speaking clearly.
    • A sales job serves as really good practice. I am making great progress thanks to it.
    • Just talking to people.

  • Being disciplined and working hard and consistently.

    • Lifting weights regularly (currently 6x week) is building the work ethic.
    • Lifting also helps realize that what you put in is what you get out.

**Might post in my own progress thread. Just wanted to get it out for now**

LOL this is hilarious and shows how ridiculous bureaucracy is. As a guy said in a reply:

- Gov receives perfectly looking doc.

Gov: this is digital, can't accept it.

- Gov receives exact same doc but looking significantly worse.

Gov: now, this is the crap we're looking for.

- Public servant procedes to print 3 copies to store in a folder, never to be used again.

I remember doing something similar for a contract where they NEEDED my handwritten signature on a printed copy. I used a handwritten font (and never printed it) and they accepted it.

Interesting trying to find good help in today’s economic climate. I’m going to make a pretty bold claim here…

But it’s never been better to work for someone else.

Not saying it’s for us, but wow! You really have to pay for talent right now. Even complete idiots are dragging down large salaries. Employees, more than ever, are naming their price and demanding enormous work flexibility.

It’s an interesting time.

It's true, the amount of non-workers really are making the value of workers go up like crazy.

And for mega corps with big profits, you can pretty much work however you want... remote, perks, travel, hell, it seems like most of the people I know who work for big companies barely work at all.

Now if you work for a private company that's less gigantic, you probably don't have it so cushy, but still.

I don't know how many trillions of tax dollars it's going to take for the average idiot on Twitter to realize that no, 44 billion dollars would NOT end world hunger.

How many tax dollars and how much inflation does it take to make stupid people intelligent?

Answer: doesn't work like that.

If you took all the tax dollars that went into the schools and universities these people went to you would have the answer to how much tax dollars does it take to make an intelligent person stupid.

I'll add a little lighter fluid to this fire here... fresh of the press:

Vancouver City Council proposes Empty Stores Tax to reduce vacant storefronts

You heard it right. In a world where bad retail is struggling, those in power want to tax it. Brilliant, on par with your comment above.

I am laughing from the tragedy of this situation. That's all that's left for us to do, laugh.

Edit: Seriously fuming over here at this. It is easily the stupidest thing our industry has seen in decades, if not generations. It's very hard to top this level of stupidity.

It’s coming whether you like it or not.

Daughter of the guy who advised Nixon to move off the gold standard now pushing for blockchain based digital currencies controlled by governments so every transaction can be recorded and tracked.

What a coincidence that she is the daughter of that guy.

Bonus little clip for you @Ali Hamza

most popular opinions are bullshit

you can usually figure out the truth by reversing popular opinions

not perfect, but a pretty good heuristic

Take this account for example - it's supposed to present ideas as bad, but a lot of these ideas are awesome.

Take this for example:

1651113583487.png

I've never heard this idea before, but just think of how differently people feel in summer vs winter, and how the moon effects the tides. I'm open to believing that.

Oh yeah and there's this:

""Chizhevsky used historical research (historiometry) techniques to link the 11-year solar cycle, Earth’s climate, and the mass activity of peoples.""

Though admittedly some of the shit on that twitter account is horrible.

Its sad to see governments trying to leverage technology to keep an eye on everything whether that is the result of natural government aggression or people in the shadows deliberately trying to do that, I would like to believe its the former than the latter though.

But the real question is whether there will be a pushback from the public or not

It doesn't matter who is actually struggling - only that it looks like everything is okay.

Someone managed to pop open the fuel cap on my G wagon last night and drain the tank dry.

They didn't do any damage to the car so I am not annoyed - just more curious about who did it and why.
The fuel prices aren't that high here and I live in a good area. Quite a random crime.

That being said is there any use in getting an anti-theft fuel cap or nighttime camera for the car?
The car itself locks the outside tank lid, but they figure out a way to pop that open quite easily.

It was on a 1/4 thank last night but mostly it's full which is like $100 worth of fuel.

You could look into installing some kind of mesh between the filler and the tank itself.

everyone assumes that if you have X you are already doing Y. Not true. Nobody teaches you about Y. It's kind of a secret club, you have to learn it yourself. You could be worth millions and have no idea what you're doing in several key areas, financially

Getting rich is always a do-it-yourself project.

To those who want student loans "cancelled":

Have you considered that by having the government pay off your student loans, those who did not attend college and work their asses off at backbreaking blue collar jobs and pay high taxes for overtime and 80 hour workweeks are subsidizing your poor financial decisions?

They make anti-siphoning inserts for a variety of vehicles -supposedly the ones used for 18-wheeler big rigs are the best but I have no personal experience with them. I'm sure your local MB dealership would be able to take care of it for you (and perhaps guarantee the results).

Federally backed student loans have already been effective cancelled just not in name yet. There is a moratorium right now on payments that has been extended multiple times and there is no reason to believe it will not be extended indefinitely, Democrat or Republican. Administratively they are also doing some creative things even for the people who had defaulted.

I hate to break it you, but the country you think you live in/idea you have in your head is long passed away. This is a whole new world, where what matters is the appearance and not the actual reality.

Strap in , you are going to go on one hell of a ride the next 10-30 years.

Didn't say the country was perfect. I only pointed out how stupid it all is, which it is.

None of this makes any economic sense.

You can say "well they've been doing this." That doesn't make it right, or logical, or good...

Point stands: the burden of paying off the loans will be shifted from those who signed up for them to those who have been working their asses off without college.

Yes, we agree: it's f****d up.

In fact, I don't see any point to your comment at all.
My point is: That vision you have of the country/government being fair and just, is just that, a vision. Maybe it was true at one time, but it certainly is not true now. If the government was fair and just then yes, the whole student loan forgiveness would be crazy and very very unfair for anyone who didn't receive the forgiveness.

We have entered a new era, one which anyone really alive at least in USA has not experienced before. When this ride is over, student loan forgiveness is going to look like child's play. Hell, the current inflation makes student loan forgiveness look like Childs play, they are actively devaluing your USD holdings as we speak AKA stealing from you right now.

Yeah, many people don't know this but the gov't recalled all of the private student debt collection contracts months ago. If student loan debt doesn't get cancelled, I will be shocked.

I agree with you.

I didn't say it was going to be fixed. I said it's screwed up what they are doing.

I pointed out facts that you then reiterated...in an extremely rude, condescending way. I just pointed out how f*cked up the situation is, which you agree with.

The rest of what you said is pointless. "Your vision" blah blah blah whatever.

Upwork is increasing client fees from 3% to 5%. I dunno why they have an agreement checkbox. If you don't agree, then this window does not close and you cannot access your client account...
