"The far more plausible reason for the author's success is luck."
I was thumbing through a book "The Wizard of Ads" and came across this gem.
"When the world sees a thriving business, the usually assumption is that the owner came up with a new angle or gimmick. To the casual observer, "he was lucky." Little is said or remembered about the man's failures, mistakes, or struggles; he was simply "lucky." (pg. 505)
The thing about luck is that you can create it. "You can't create luck" you say? Well yes, actually you can. You can go to a meeting that may present an opportunity, you can go to a job fair that may present an opportunity, or you can stay at home and play video games and get lucky that you beat the computer at it's own game.

Being in the slowlane, what I've found interesting is that many people say those that have created wealth are "just lucky". This is the Achilles heel of the slowlane. It's basically saying they cannot escape their fate unless they are lucky. It's an excuse. Luck is created through action. Of course you will never have a multimillion dollar idea come into fruition unless you take massive action to make it happen.
Work hard and destroy your competition and you will create your own luck through work, not some magic F*cking wand.
I'm currently in the slowlane and F*cking love all of the excuses all of the other slowelaners give me to work their 9-5 and talk to me about how "lucky" the 1%'s got there.
