So I was reading an article on Yahoo! the other day, and followed a link to the Yahoo! Contributor Network. It's supposedly a place where you can submit content to Yahoo!, and they will index it and even pay per read if the volume is significant enough.
I thought it looked interesting.
I submitted three original articles.
After a few days, I received some editorial criticisms on the first article. Cool, right? I made their requested changes, and resubmitted it. Later that day, I received some new editorial criticisms on the same article. OK, it's their sandbox... I can live with a second round of edits. I made their requested changes. The following day, I received their third round of requested changes, along with a few snippy editorial jabs from them about the substance of the (all original and extremely thought provoking) content. In short, after multiple edits, the editor came back and basically said the information was crappy. So, I took their free editorial comments into consideration, copied the last draft for my own personal files, and deleted the submission from Yahoo. F*ck 'em.
I just got an email regarding the second submission, which was an inventory checklist for personal protection. They just rejected that one, with the comments would be better suited for a personal blog than for "their" platform. I think it might be a liberal editorial perspective that I am not catering to. They also stated with this rejection that "...all submissions must be in-depth and unique with a clear and distinct voice." Yep. Apparently my submission was not in-depth, was not unique, and didn't have a clear and distinct voice. F*ck 'em #2.
There's a third article pending right now, and it's a masterpiece. It truly is a culmination of a few years worth of research. If they reject that one (and if my hunch is right about their political leaning... they will) then they literally can kiss my overly large, overly caucasian a$$.
That is all. As you can tell, I am a huge fan of the Yahoo! Contributor Network. Getting content rejected by a 21 year old journalism intern at Yahoo! was not exactly what I had in mind. With as easy as it is to self publish these days (for which Yahoo! would index it anyway...) I might just have to create a high ranked blog just as a big :moon3: to Yahoo.
