Most of my internet time from my smartphone is spent reading here :) actually changed my default home page to this forum just so I can get to it faster when I'm stuck somewhere with only my phone.

But I agree with you. It's like I told one of my friends recently: the internet is full of knowledge. You can literally learn just about anything by searching for it. Sadly, everyone either spends it watching cat videos or , ya know, porn. It's the instant gratification, I call it investing in ignorance.

Another thing I noticed a while back was how everyone on social media is a model now or a "CEO" of some bullshit.

I took the only logical route - stopped paying attention to news feeds on social media.

I remember seeing my girlfriend using her phone recently, the hand gestures were unmistakable: swipe up, double tap, swipe up, double tap. It was like automation! I wanted to impose my opinion on her at first, but realized she has to listen to me talk about TMF and FLF all the time so I let it be.

oh crap i forgot about the porn! and forums...

scares me with Twitter lately.. all the bad press, CEO leaving and seems they are lost..

what if you built your business around using twitter... I can't see them remaining viable much longer unless they do something dramatic..

anyone even still use Twitter?
I have one, but I never use it. I think I've logged on twice in the last year. One of those was to make it.

Nobody I know uses it primarily, so I don't bother.

I completely deleted my profile 2 weeks ago. Guess how many "friends" I have now? 4. And it is fantastic that my time and energy goes into my daughter, myself, my relationship, my business and my 4 friends who actually care and that I truly care about. Someone told me "you're committing social suicide". I say let it die.

People are also abandoning their Facebook Business Pages due to the restriction of reach Facebook has been implementing

This is why building a business based off one traffic stream is a recipe for disaster....it's going to dry up sooner or later

This is why I go directly to /ads/manage/ . And maybe once or twice a week to checkout what competitors are doing with their ads.

How do you check the competitors ads?

I never could get email marketing... I am subscribed to nothing myself and the last thing I want is someone to email me anything. If I need something I will go to google and search for it myself. Heck there isnt anything I want anyone to ever email me.

I know for a fact it works as thats what all the top gurus do but for the life of me I honestly dont even know anyone that would want to be bothered with yet another email from anyone.

The only email lists I sign up to are those which give me FREE, high-quality value.

If the people who write to me suddenly told me to buy snake oil, I would consider it - because I trust them, and because they have helped me several times.

Email is not the problem. Poor quality and targeting is.

Something I try doing is not project my purchasing behavior on
other people

What I look at is what's working and what's not

I don't care why it works...I just care how & if I can make it work for my business

Projecting your personal feelings and biases to the marketplace is a great way to handicap your success.

Case in point: I hate pop-ups. I never give up my email. But ya know what? They work in the market. So I use them. My personal feelings are irrelevant.

Why experience something live and in 3D? When you can replay it flattened and in 2D?

We're becoming slaves to our smartphones, prostituting life's rich experiences for likes, comments, and social media shares.

The image saddens me.

View attachment 9890

That is a crazy image.

These days when I go out, I leave my phone at home. That way whenever whatever happens, I'm not distracted with a phone, trying to capture the moment. Instead, I'll actually just enjoying the moment.

My grandma found one in her front garden last year and promptly adopted that little ninja.
Wanna visit her?

Now I'm going to have to go online and look at turtles or else I'm going to be off the whole day.

You guys have to understand, the reason why any social media is doing so great, is because it is catering to the massive insecurities of this young generation. They were thrust into a economy that is everything but friendly to them, lack the adequate education to face life's hardships, many of them have boomer parents that were lifetime sidewalkers. The only thing that can find comfort on that isn't super expensive is the ever expanding internet, and social media enables this generation of young kids to satisfy their vanity without actually work for it with other people. Work in IT my manager has warned me not to ever work for a social media company because it is all but a fad.

It's marketcap is a joke.

$230 Billion..

I don't see this ending well.

Well, that's how much the wall street thinks facebook can impact people around the world...lots of sidewalkers gets their vanity from facebook daily, for absolutely no work, certainly worth 230 billion.

This pretty much sums up why -- it's one big carefully curated facade.

Wow, what a great video...and so true.

I am one of the few people I know who is not on Facebook. I'm not saying that I'll never get on it, but it would probably be for a business.

One of the many things about Facebook that bothers me is that it's such a time-sucker. I just can't believe the amount of time that people spend on it reading about other people's lives when they should be out living their own.

IMO, time is one of our most precious resources, and it's so easily wasted.

Check out this video. Pay no attention to Arnold and the punkage going on. Instead watch this and focus your attention on the smartphone and its ubiquity in the lives of culture. People walking through the museum and they all lead with their phones. Some are even on the phone. Take a look how it dominates everyone's present, and how their "now" has been demoted to a mere recording session to be shared and prostituted later for likes, comments, rah rah, and at best, remembered in 2D with one sense, vs 3D, with all senses.

aside from video games and movies i just cannot understand how people voluntarily spend so much time on their smartphone or any other screen for that matter...
I stay on the screen to learn and work on projects. I use Facebook to get in groups and observe personality, behavior, and get idea about what the problems people are having and what to write about.

Most people don't even want to impress people, they really do it for themselves.
They want likes. Validation of their opinion.

In other words, most people are just jerking their egos off.

Yes, you're totally right. People on social media are posting to satisfy their own egos.

And people are not always seeking social approval. That's just one desire. There is also the desire to be superior, to win (keep up with the Joneses) that's present on social media. And let's not forget the need for sexual companionship (impressing the opposite sex, getting attention).

But I'm not immune too. Not even you or anyone else on the forum. We are all humans and we all naturally want these things. They're part of our survival mechanism and we're wired to satisfy these desires. We just need to be more aware and be in control of ourselves more.

I personally don't use Facebook, but I know it's addictive.

I work around computers. We get a amazing 15 min break. Guess what people do on that 15 min break? ..stare at a computer.
it never ceases to amaze/disgust me how people scroll endlessly on a ever ending time line.
unless facebook is making you money, there's no point in it.
why do you have a cell phone.
Why are you paying 40..60..100!? a month for the privilege of staring at a screen?
I have a cheap piece of junk phone
and it makes a heck of a lot more money than a iphone 6 plus with ''bigger screen!!''

There's been some research on this and our memories don't recall filmed or events that we take pictures of nearly as well as without them.

http://www.psychologicalscience.org...-photos-may-impede-memory-of-museum-tour.html

I admit I've taken pictures on my smartphone when I feel like I should just be enjoying the moment. I've also found that even when that does happen I hardly ever look back at the pictures. I've found the best thing, like when scuba diving is just having a video on attached to you somewhere but not even paying attention to it. I almost forget it's there and am just in the moment but if later on I want to go back to it, I still have it on video.

As far as FB I just dumped around 20-minutes into my feed. Complete waste of time, and there seems to be a lot of "rich shaming" going around these days.
