Hello everyone,
I have been thinking about joining this forum ever since I finished reading the MFL about a year ago, and I finally did it today. A little about myself: I am a 34Y/O Male from Vancouver, BC, Canada. I was born here, and have continued to make this place my home. 2023 was a big year for me as I got married, and we are now planning to add to our family. Everything looks good from the outside, but, man, I do not feel like things are alright.
My career was determined for me from the second I was born. My family has been in the luxury goods business for 5 generations, and, ever since childhood, my parents conditioned me to expect that I will be a part of this business. Now, I take a lot of pride in our family business, and I do want to be part of it. However, I have always wanted more out of life. One successful business is not enough for me, especially given that I didn't build this business.
I don't mean to come across as an ungrateful a-hole, and I hope I am not coming across as such. I am deeply grateful for my family's heritage, and the opportunities it has afforded me in life. That being said, and this is the piece I am really hoping forges a connection, I have a deeply-seated desire to create something wonderful, useful, and valued by people on my own. It doesn't have to be glamorous. I just want to scratch the itch that has plagued me forever: the question of my own capability and if I can give something of value to this world.
I joined this forum as a means to learn, connect, and be inspired. I look forward to reading about your successes, and, hopefully, sharing my own some-day.
