What kind of business model is this?

A post of a ranting nature...

Hi Guys,

Currently based in Australia and have noticed many brands in the United States who have great products but don't yet ship or sell within Australia due to shipping costs, or don't yet see the market as an opportunity etc.

This presents an opportunity, especially for the right product. My idea is to model their success, duplicate their product, bulk import their product, and sell and market it locally.

What would this business model be called? Licensing? Franchising?

Thanks!

I import some products from the USA for my own use, and the freight cost is so low that I can land them in Australia for on average about 25% of what I would pay for the same products if I bought them retail here.

eBay has hundreds of sellers in Australia who buy in bulk from US suppliers and sell at huge markups.

The possibilities for @Scuderia will depend on what the products are, whether or not he can buy direct from US manufacturers, buy from distributors, buy from companies keen to export, or buy retail at good prices. The other big factor is freight, but cheap freight is there to be found.

This is why I list in my book a couple of US sourcing sites, because companies who advertise on those sites are doing so because they want to export. Yes, they will even export to that little known country Australia.

He might not find those companies that he refers to, but there are plenty of US companies , big and small, that are keen to export. They have a PLUS 1 plan. See my thread:
