What brands come to mind when you think INSTANT successes?

For me, brands like Halo and GTA come to mind.

Try to come up with a brand that took the marketplace by storm. People who wanted it would wait long outside your doors for it. The demand was so high that customers would stay overnight at a store in the winter to get your product before it would be sold-out.

I'm trying to think of companies that did this with ZERO marketing but I can't come up with any!

C'mon dude.

Nothing is INSTANT or an "overnight success"

Halo was launched when the first Xbox came out and was a massive massive hit. BUT Bungie studios was founded 10 years earlier in the 90s and didn't strike it big with halo until 10 years later. Hardly instant.

Could you wait 10 years to strike it big? Most can't.

The first GTA came out in '97 and no one really gave a shit. GTA 2 came out, no one gave a shit.

GTA didn't strike it big until GTA 3 and built momentum and a huge fan base from there.

So no, there are no instant success in business. There's no such thing as ZERO marketing.

Can only agree with this.

What you see, when you watch the lines of people in front of the Apple stores when a new iPhone gets released is no instant success, it's just the event at the end of a long and hard process. Same goes for every big video game or any other product that got a hype. I mean Snapchat could be seen as an overnight success, suddenly everyone knew what Snapchat is. But what they don't mention are the years the developers put their work into this app.

What do you mean 'no one really gave a shit? I was one of those guys that loved this game back in the day! o_O;)

But yeah...to the OP's original post there are no instant successes; that's why you can't come up with any. If you haven't learned that from the book or by looking into the history of products, brands and companies then you've got some work to do. There are no shortcuts. Business, all business, is a grind.
