I need to fix my resume I don't think I should write janitor on it. I'm not looking for it to be perfect just don't want it to look like shit. If it looks like shit then no one will hire me could you look at it

Sure, I'll take a look.

First, edit this section:

  • Use punctuation.
  • Avoid generalities.
  • What does great hand skills mean? Remove it.
  • Remove good speaker.
  • Use spaces between commas.
Second, rewrite the experience section:

XEbS7iL.png

  • Again, avoid generalities. Be specific.
  • Instead, say: "able to sweep 5 rooms in 40 minutes".
    • (Don't say this please, I'm showing you specific versus generalities.)
  • Don't say you worked in a group. What does this mean?

4. Read @JAJT post here: Is it worth it to pay for someone to redo my resume? He absolutely nailed it on the head on what a resume should read like.

Good luck man.

I changed it and this is what I can come up with since I have literally nothing to offer and being a janitor doesn't count as a job. I need to find marketable skills and learn them but I don't know what they are

Thank you for supporting me I know that I have nothing to offer but at least I can change that. I'm going to do whatever it takes to get out of this situation.

Why did you remove your experience?

I suggested to rewrite the section.

Instead of saying: cleaning building surfaces.

Say this, for example: manage carpet cleaning for a hotel with 300+ rooms and 140+ customers per day

You can also add: trained two janitors successfully ensuring that they follow.....

Please don’t add these to your resume. I’m trying to paint a picture on how to be specific versus saying general stuff like cleaning surface. I don’t know what a janitor does so take my advice with a grain of salt.

Also, did you read the notable thread, article, and watch the videos? Those resources will help you build a better resume.

Sorry, but no one here can make a resume for you. We can look at it and help suggest but YOU have to take action and build one yourself using the resources you have in front of you.

Good luck.

That means i should focus on getting a job first but no one will hire me. i have no college degree and no work experience. I'm familiar with coding but I'm not even a veteran yet. getting a job in new York is tough. I'm trying to do something until i can find a job that will allow me to profit.

Do you live near a MAKERSPACE? If not, start one. Or just go borrow tools from friends and make something. Start small. I know people who make earrings out of wood. At makerspaces, you can use 3D printers, laser cutters, robotic routers, and other cool machines to build stuff. Just look up "how to make X" on the internet and you'll find tons of plans. Start making the stuff that interests you and then make an Instagram page and give some stuff away to big names with lots of followers who would benefit from having the thing you made.

  1. Research a thing you'd like to make.
  2. Make it.
  3. Give some of it away for free.
  4. Talk about it in social media and give advice on the benefits.
  5. Ask people to buy it every now and then.
  6. If people don't buy it, start over at number one.
  7. repeat 1 to 6.
LEARN. MAKE. EARN.

I started applying to many different jobs with no luck and I also decided to ignore the part where I was supposed to submit a cover letter i don't know how to write one and I don't even think its necessary to even do it

So much great info in this thread. Love it!

Read it twice, some of the info I needed to hear again.

25 % knowing exactly what we want

25 % belief " i really deserve to be rich " ( most people don't really believe this is possible )

25 % belief " i can become rich " ( learning the skills )

and only 25 % doing the technical stuff, action and so on !!

Financial literacy is important, but you're putting the chicken before the egg. You business acumen and ability to generate money needs to happen before you worry about how to best spend it. Assets are important... at a later stage. Right now you need to focus on being adept at creating value for others, solving problems.

If you're starting out "The millionaire fastlane " and "The ONE thing" is all you need.

Erase the phrase “I don’t know how” from your vocabulary.

Understand you can learn HOW and it is YOUR CHOICE. The little things MATTER.

Managing 0 dollars will get you 0 dollars.

tep 1. Get a job. (Even McDonald’s is hiring, be humble.)
— if you’re having trouble finding work, go to Workforce 1.
Step 2. Save up some checks. Then, buy stuff on Craigslist and flip. Repeat. Takes hustle but you got no choice.

Step 3. Reread the book. Then, get better at code. Offer your services through Fiverr or Upwork.

Step 4. Read the gold threads. Especially @Fox thread on how to sell websites.

Reading is pointless if you aren't spending the time to fully understand what it is that you are reading.

Google is more helpful to my life than any book I've ever read.

Managing 1$ million is not learnt by reading books but by mastering how to manage 1 dollar , and then 2 dollars, then 3, then 4, 5, 6, and so on.

While you're saving, build up your skill set, stack your skills, and become the best at what you do.

Keep finding ways to make more money per hour until you can work for yourself.

Stay the hell away from debt.

While you're doing all of that become a great listener. Ask everyone you meet about their problems.

Like MJ says process not events.

self belief is often overlooked as a key component to success in business.
