Since my introduction a few months back after reading "Unscripted " I have continued down the education path. After some help from a business mentor who gave me a very peculiar task, I gained the focus I had been lacking.
In @MJ DeMarco first book "The Millionaire Fastlane , he described and rated 5 fastlane business seedlings:
1. Rental Systems
2. Computer/Software Systems
3. Content Systems
4. Distribution Systems
5. Human Resource Systems
When doing an inventory of my skills, desires, and comfort levels I have settled on 2 of these - Rental and Content Systems.
Real Estate rental makes sense to me as it's a tangible product that everyone needs to satisfy the first and second rungs of Maslow's Hierarchy of needs. It's a field I've been interested in for quite some time and is the easiest one for me to find support. My wife was also easy to sell this idea to as well (which face it, for someone who works 9-5 and is content with that, she's the one person I NEED the support from) allowing us to set clear goals and we are already working on our first deal!
Now the second system take a bit to explain. I've been a certified life coach for about 5 years now and in the last 3, have specialized in personal financial coaching as it relates to a person's mindset and spending decisions for their lifestyle. All of this has been done face-to-face and not only do I have the system down for figuring finances, I've also developed and refined the mental process needed to come to terms with a situation and pathways out of bad predicaments. I am now going to offer this content online and at first it will be live but I'm currently working on turning it into a pre-recorded/document-content coaching package so I can automate the sales funnel (my biggest learning curve) to then use that money to further my real-estate investing.
It's been a stressful few months but really rewarding. The hardest part has actually been walking my wife (you know, the content with her 9-5 person) through this level of thinking. All of this while helping to take care of a new born (4 months old) and appeasing my wife by not sacrificing anything that affects her too much. She is slowly starting to understand this and eventually will be able to stomach making some cuts here and there but for the time being, the stress rests all on my shoulders as it should.
For those of you out there who are established in your life and think this stuff is too hard or your spouse doesn't get it, trust me, I totally understand but you can make progress and I'm happy to chat with whoever would like to hear more. My hope is that I could help some of you have better conversations with your spouse to get over some of the hurdles or even talk to some spouses to help re-assure (convince) them this way of life, while challenging, is totally worth it!
Happy fastlaning!
