Hey everyone
I am 23 year old guy from Poland and I can say I have hit my Breaking Point.
But just to put everything in to the context. Here is my story.
Like most people in Poland after High school I went straight to colleague to get my Bachelor degree (Most of higher education in Poland is free so I am debt free). After 3 years of studying and 1 failed relationship I got my Bachelor degree in Business Analytics. Most of my colleagues went for Master's right after but I didn't see enough value in it so I chose to get to the workforce right away. I always wanted to start a businesses and work for myself but didn't know how to do it so instead I started applying for jobs around my city and within my field of studies. I got reply from one big (international) corporation in my city in field of finance and audit and after 2 interviews I got the job. The first whole month was onboarding process basically what you will do, what you cannot do and so on. After that I was ready to be a cog in this big corporate machine.
My title is Process specialist and I have mainly been doing 3 processes standardized by the firm. The whole point of the branch in Poland is to the prepare data or documents for the auditors in UK, Italy, Germany, Netherlands and so on. It's outsourcing the work that can be done for much cheaper than in UK or Germany. Actually I would say it's pretty great business model for them. Their main costs are wages which wont grow exponentially and the median salary in Poland is around 1700$ per month.
While I was working there I started searching for a way on how to create my own business. That's how I found the The Millionaire Fastlane in the beginning of 2024. This book erased any doubts that I had in my had about creating my own business. Unfortunately after that I went into marathon of learning about the business. Podcasts, books, articles, YT videos the whole package, and I felt so productive doing this. I am learning new things right? I need this knowledge to start right? I was pouring but I was not drinking at all.
I had one business venture before. This was when I was still attending collage. It was arbitrage of virtual items from computer games. (It was flipping skins from CS:GO for those gamers out there). I was doing this for 6 months with profits around minimal wage in Poland but month by month my margins were smaller and smaller. There were many factors why that was, like value of Polish currency was declining compered to EUR or USD. But the biggest and the most import one was my own laziness.
One year ago I started this corporate job and now I can say with conviction that I hate this but I have some sort of a plan. My father is the reason that I always wanted to start the business because he had some sort of business his whole life. Right now it's wholesale trade in vegetables and he had it for almost 20 years and I decided to help him full time(before I was helping him when he needed). The business doesn’t have any employees it was always like that. The whole business model is that we have one farmer with whom my father is working with for 15 years and we are selling farmer's product at the vegetable market. Main clients are other vegetable wholesalers, restaurants, vegetable stalls, and bars. My father never wanted me to get into this businesses as he said ,,It's not good for future" "It's declining market" and so on. Which I believe is all true but the previews year was a record profit for him. I know it's sounds stupid right? Record profit and market declining. There are a lot of factors that go into that like price fluctuation due to weather, vegetables from other countries entering into Poland, luck with timing and so on. My plan is to quick my corporate job and work with my father for at least the whole season (8 months starting form half of November) to get some experience in operations and also try to increase the revenue of the business for example by creating website for smaller restaurant's to order vegetables. Some of our competitors have the wbsite bu nothing fancy. (This is a very old school business model. No marketing. No ads. Nothing sexy from 21 centenary). I believe this experience will be much more valuable than working at the corporation if my end goal is to be business owner.
Thank you very much for reading this wall of text that I have created. I really appreciated.
If you have any guidance, advice or anything like that for me I am always eager to listen.
Thank you!
Michał
